in the past they have allocated early for GEP, so you will have a place - but you probably won't be able to move in until the weekend immediately before starting since the term is so early this year (you're a full week earlier than when we started). The form always says early september because it's the same one they use for the five year course who don't rock up until october!

If you're worried, then do give them a call - but the system has never failed to work before!

I think it would be fun for the new GEP years across London to get together every now and again!
After all its not long at all for us to be joining foundation placements and chances are then we will all be mixed into different foundation schools, probably around the capital.

Just got the forms! Phew, so relieved... One question - what will you guys put about placements on Wednesday afternoons? I'm thinking no way; I don't care if I miss sports or whatever but I was considering doing maybe some teaching on Saturdays and Wednesday afternoons (Greek schools run in the afterhours) to get something extra to support myself. That of course would happen if I can keep up with the science - if not then I'll have to use my free time to study

Would it sound bad if I said no?

I've put down that I don't mind doing Wednesday afternoons. I was planning on doing some voluntary work then, but I'm assuming that if I do have a placement on a Wednesday afternoon then I'll have the morning free instead and can do my volunteering then!

I don't think there's anything wrong with saying you don't want to do the placement on a Wednesday afternoon and I think they just put in in there for those of us who genuinely don't mind. So, don't feel bad about saying no!

Stephen

P.S. Is anyone going to the RCP open day on 5th July - I am, if only to have a nosey around...plus I want to see if I'm allergic to anything (besides that demonic grass pollen):

The emphasis is on fun and hands-on learning, with interactive stands from different medical specialties offering activities such as allergy testing and the chance to practice resuscitation.

I'm edging towards a move into halls of residence. I was lucky in that I was offered to flatshare with an old pal of mine, but I think I would enjoy the experience of living with SGUL newbs more, at least for year 1. I'm a little worried that I won't be in halls in time for matriculation/course start. The move-in time is dangerously close to start of term. I will have to check that with the uni. I also put in that I don't mind working Wed noons. I much prefer that than getting out of my bed at the crack of dawn!

On a different note, is anyone getting last minute butterflies about the course? I'm looking forward to start but my biggest fears are lack of adjustment and loss of freedom. At the back of my mind, I'm worrying that the change will be more sudden than gradual and I will be a bit of a misfit. I've had those thoughts in my mind for a while and thought I'd share by getting them out in the open!

Other than that, and the prospect of parting with my money to pay all these fees(!), I am quite looking forward to September

Unhappy

I have put down that I don't want to do Wednesday afternoon placements too, as I'm hoping that I'll get involved in some sort of sports/society thing (though not sure what yet!) and I think they often have stuff on Wednesday afternoons. I did feel abit bad, but then they did ask for our preference..

I've got butterflies too, getting a little nervous about how everything is going to change drastically in just 3 months!

I have a quick question in case anyone happens to be in the same position. My parents live in Malaysia, and I moved to England 6 years ago. On the form, there is a question about whether your parents have lived abroad, and in the 'eligibility for NHS paying 2nd,3rd,and 4th year fees' bit, it says youre not eligible if parents are living abroad. Does anyone know if this applies to someone who is classed as an independant student (I am 25)? I will call NHS Grants anyway, but just wanted to check if anyone else has the same circumstances. Am very much hoping that I am not suddenly going to be faced with an extra £10,000 for fees that I thought all GEP students had paid for them!

Thanks
