Suggested reading/prepreparation...

Hi,

Can anyone (esp.current students) suggest any books that I can read before joining in as a 1st yr? Also, can you please name a few textbooks that you've studied from as 1st years?
Many thanks,
Cathy.

harry potter is a good one and so are all the other cool comics and novels out there. Basically you should enjoy the summer before term starts. But if you really must know.....vander, sherman & luciano is a good physiology book that'll get you through the first term. Then again, the 1st term is essentially A-level biology but with slightly more detail. The good stuff is in term 2 and beyond.

You don't really need any. In the first few weeks borrow from the library to see which textbooks suit you. All I needed for my 1st year was Clinical Medicine (Kumar & Claark) - that's just for your CBLs really, and perhaps an anatomy book. Some people go over the top in buying books though.

Don't bother doing any reading before medical school - you go to medical school to learn and you're not expected to do it beforehand! Enjoy your summer.
