Sports Clubs

Hey guys, i'm definitely going to be attending George's this October as a 1st Year Medic. I was looking at the St. George's Student Union website, reviewing the various sports clubs and societies on offer. I saw 3 groups which i liked the look of:

The Wakeboard and Windsurfing group
The Ski and Snowboard Group
The Boat (rowing) Club

There's no problem with joining the Ski and Snowboard club, as they only get together once a year. However, the problem is that the rowing club and the Wakeboard club meet and organize excursions on the same days at the same times - Wednesday afternoons and Weekends.

I was wondering if any current students know if it's possible for me to join both of these competing clubs, and maybe attend one on the Wednesday afternoon and the other on Weekends? Or any other set-up allowing me to join both. I am really keen to do both sports, so would appreciate any advice.

Thanks, TX

Wednesday afternoons are free for sport for most unis in the country. The Wakeboard and Windsurfing group? To be honest I haven't heard of it (and at George's if you haven't heard of a club that's clearly a sign) - it may be new or they may have tried to get it going recently

I'm part of the rowing club and has been established for ages. If you seriously want to commit in terms of training and competing in it you need to commit Wednesdays and weekends (not always both Sat and Sun though).

Thanks ClaneyUk, i think i'll probably choose the rowing club. I haven't tried rowing before, i've done a bit of rafting here and there though. They are probably nothing alike, but i am keen to try my hand at rowing. Maybe i'll see you down at the training dock.

The wakeboarding club is new but well organised. if you want to try something different then its a good choice tho a bit expensive cos you have to hire stuff e.g. wetsuit. The rowers require a lot of commitment and early mornings. they also have a reputation of being a bit cliquey (and a bit wierd)

Haha - check out the the competition to recruit new members already!! I've never had that many early mornings to be honest. As for the clique thing - well that goes for most clubs/societies where their members have to spend a lot of time together Rowing can also be a bit expensive too in terms of kit and race rees!
