Australia after F2
Hi,
Anyone know about how UK graduates can apply for ST in Australia? Is our degree & FY training accepted without any board exams? Will MRCS part A suffice if I wanted to get into general surgery?
Any help appreciated.
ThanksFY1 STFS

hi
im not sure about the specifics of surgery except MRCS wont count.
to train over there you bascially need to do this
1. have medical degree and 1 year post-grad experience (so after F1). this is accepted by the australian medical council (AMC)
2. apply to AMC for acceptance (advanced standing) and get a job!
3. apply to a state board for registration
4. get visa (several available depending on your circumstances (usually 457)
5. after 1 year working in the country you can apply for permanent residence then apply to the relevant college to train (most colleges require permanent residence before getting onto their training programme, except emergency med. you can get straight on their training programme)
this is very simplistic. you need to look on the AMC website, state board website and immigration websites.Claire, surgical FY1 in a DGH

Thanks a lot Claire! I like simplistic explanations!
Will look into the procedure on the AMC & immigration websites. Wonder if me having an Indian passport (on a UK student visa) creates another issue.

not sure what issues that would create, do you have a british degree? if not you would have to look into whether other degrees are accepted. plus you would maybe have a harder time proving you can speak english well (apparently even english people living in UK their whole lives and going to an english school have to jump through lots of hoops!)

Hi,
yes I should have a British degree (hopefully after I pass my viva in May 2010). F1 job allocation somewhere in South Thames FS. jumping through hoops shouldn't be a problem....have had to do that throughout undergrad!
Thanks

hi clarkey,
yes that would be the shorter route to specialist training in Oz. I've heard many people who apply for F2 abroad don't get it approved by STFS. We're meant to express interest in October 2010 of F1 and submit all the paperwork by Jan end 2011. hope it works out!

hey hi guys
this is my first msg i post on this forum.
i'm an italian medical student, currently attending yr 5.
I'd like to try the FP in UK so that i might have many chances afterwords.
It might be me trying the cst/st in uk or either moving to australia, the country that i love the most.
so what?
i red before it might be that even if i complete FP in uk, but still i got graduated in Italy, they do not axcept me in the AMC?
and also: do you know if AMC provides an examination?or the AMC registration is the equivalent of the 2 yr FP in UK?
i hope i made myself understood..
thank you guys for your help
