drink tea. look gammy. do no work. grow a beard (ma apologies to all the female profs to whom this also has applied to ...sorri sorri eg Fluffy). get your own crabby office.
get so tied to the academic world that you cant let go.Last edited by Gizmo says -; 12-10-2009 at 09:46 PM.

Most what gizmo said. but i think it also helps if you do some research, publish some important papers and are willling to move around a lot. Then if your a good enough candidate you can apply for professorship at a university. Or a university might seek you out tp work for them and sweeten the deal by making you a prof.

What exactly do you mean then Ronaldo? Given that professor is an academic title, and that academic need to be affliated to a university in one way or another, how else would you be a professor. Maybe you need to understand what one is before you plan your career path to get there. Or alternatively you might like to plan an alternative career as an airline pilot but not on a plane?

That person is not attached to a university. Do you think he earns a lot of money?
