Placed on the Southampton waiting list. What shall I do?
I've got 2 non-med offers (pharmacy at nottingham and physiology at leicester) while the other 2 med schools I got rejected from (st george's post interview and queen mary's however may offer me an alternative course to med)
That's my current situation. Should I hope for a place? Or just go straight for a degree? (Not too keen on a gap year)
Cheers

Over 300 views and not one reply :S Your post is slightly confusing. Only you can decide what is right for you.
Overall it depends on you and what career you want to go into- med or something else?
What’s wrong with taking a gap year? You could strengthen your med application in the mean time, earn some money, go travelling and apply for next year. Or you could do your degree and then try for graduate entry- which is far more competitive plus you’ll be in a lot of debt.
I would think carefully about what career you want to go into and make a decision based on that.*Ding Ding* Time for my second round...

I was placed on the waiting list for Southampton last year!! They told me last year they have not used that list for at least 3 years and it is only there as a last resort. I beleive it is a extremely unlikely to be offered a place off that list as they also offer double the amount of places they have anyway due to missed grades and also people selecting other universities. You can ring them up and ask them the likelyhood of them using the list this year but i would assume it will remain unlikely.
I took a gap year last year and this year have an offer. Although I never wanted a gap year and considered taking an alternate degree. If you really want to do medicine its not really that long and it really does fly by.
It really is your personal decision but I think if you definatly will not consider a gap year then you should take one of your other degrees but I would really think about it before making that decision, after all a gap year is just 1 year and most of that is filled with the application process, whereas an alternative degree is 3 years before you can apply to medicine again. Don't make rash decisions when you are disappointed.Medicine 2010
