I got a nice postcard from Southampton acknowledging that they got my application and would be getting back to me as soon as possible...

Part of me wants to find out now if I got in and part of me doesn't want to find out until I have at least one offer from one of the 5 year courses I applied to.

I would love to do the 4 year here, but last year their ratio was something like 1000+ applicants to 40 places, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

Oh...I should check my mail. Was the postcard to acknowledge your BM4 or BM5 application?

It was for the BM4 course only (I did not apply for the BM5).

It was totally general and did not refer to medicine at all. It was literally my address stuck to a pre-prepared card saying thank you for applying to Southampton and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

When did you send in your application on UCAS? I still don't have my postcard.

Wednesday evening which would have been October 14th.

I would not worry too much about it as these things are easily lost and it is your UCAS track status that really matters (which I still don't have proper access to yet). If you are concerned I would contact UCAS who will be able to give you more specific advice about your status or how to confirm it.

Before I did my first degree I got my offer from Durham and then 2 weeks later they acknowledged receipt of my application and would contact me as soon as possible. They are literally the snail mail equivalent of an auto-mailer.

Fingers crossed for Soton BM4! I've applied to 2 other grad entry courses and one 5 year course.
I hate the waiting. I never have decided on whether no interview policy is a good thing or not. I guess that might depend on whether I get an offer or not

I was quite gutted to learn that the application process takes so long at Soton considering there are no interviews - was really hoping it would be a quick once over followed by a swift yay or nay.
