When I phoned them before making my application the person I spoke to told me that they use the UKCAT in borderline cases, which really could mean anything.

As others have said you want as high as you can get because every little counts on a course this competitive because arguably everyone applying is going to be a very strong candidate.

It is very difficult to work out how much they use the UKCAT. On the one hand they don't appear to have a cut off so you won't be auto-rejected like you can be at some universities (despite being an amazing applicant). However at least that way you know where you stand and exactly how much value they place on it, either you make it or you don't. This way is far more vague and is potentially asking for a much higher score yet at the same time would still consider someone with a low score!

I'm sorry to hear you got rejected, it doesn't in any way mean you were a bad applicant or even that those who get offers are better, its just so competitive that they have to define a way to justify their rejections and you got unlucky. Perhaps you could ask them for feedback? It might tell you if it is the UKCAT you need to work on or something else.

Hey guys just thought id add something here. Now I know it sounds bad to tell you but actually it made my thoughts easier that in 2008 Southampton GEP was actually 1:40 places per applicant - so it just goes to show even excellent work experience and exam results may not get you there as they have such a small amount of places.

Hey guys, just gave Southampton a call as this waiting around is a little unnerving at times (plus I have an exam this evening that I need to revise for and I could do without the distraction of checking Track!)

Anyways, spoke to a member of staff at the admissions office and she said they've just started to process the BM4 applications and we could hear any time between now and the end of March! I know that's when the universities must have their decisions in by but it looks like we could potentially be in for a very long wait. Just wanted to let everyone know so that it can in some respects put people at a bit more ease...including myself!
