BM4: Elective and Research Opportunities
Greetings!
So far i only have an offer from Soton and i am on the waiting list of Cambridge, Wolfson College. Hence i am 90% positive that i will be a BM4 student coming September.
Going through the documents in the department's website I couldn't get much information whether there's any research programs available for the students or if there's an affiliation with other foreign unis (with respect to summer placements etc).
Also i see that there's no elective period in BM4. Is that right?
Such a shame really...
Overall, i am not feeling that this is the best designed course. I would have expected such graduate courses to be more rigorous and scientific but yet not lacking the early clinical setting.
However, i am not implying that it's a bad course, but just that there is lack of information and hence i cannot judge whether it is a good enough option.
I don't want to sound ungrateful for being offered a place but i really did put Southampton down by sheer randomness...but see how randomness turns out to be a saviour?
Can't wait for the open day!
Anyone else going on the 16th of March?Last edited by RoAm; 17-02-2009 at 06:02 AM.

I don't know how much time you get off on BM4, but you don't get as much as the five year programme. You don't get an elective unfortunately but you can take your 4 week SSU abroad (in final year) which would be just like an elective.
If you are really keen i'm sure research opportunities may be available to you but i don't know for definite, like i said time and the fact you are based mainly in winchester would make that more difficult.ANYTHING WRITTEN BY ME ON THIS SITE DOES NOT REPRESENT THE VIEWS OF SOUTHAMPTON UNIVERSITY!
Finally a final year medical student!

Hey RoAm!
I also have an offer for the BM4 and like yourself, am reasonably certain I will be accepting it. I found quite a lot of information for the design of the BM4 curriculum for 2007 entry. It may have changed since then, but I thought it to be well laid out and quite exciting.
I haven't received my welcome pack or anything yet so I'm not sure what you get sent with that.
Anyway, heres the link for you!
