maybe quiting the job early was not such a good idea afterall.
I cant believe someone would even consider self-catered. how lame is that! tbh ud only b payin £20 per week extra and u have no washing ups to do.University of Southampton

accommodation hotline
Phone in and ask. Southampton runs an accommodation hotline as the new academic year approaches.

There are too many choices Which would make that an unlikely situation. If you dont like ANY of the hot meals offered there are always a selection of freshly made (
) sandwiches to take. you get your meal, your drink and a choice of desert/fruit. ALSO if you know you're going to miss lunch you can call the catering, mention your account number and they will leave u aside a microwavable dish with your food inside to pick-up!
each meal (breakfast, lunch/dinner) will work out at about £2.50-£3 which is much cheaper than eatin out. I think that catered is a safe option till i improve my cookin skills for the subsequent years.University of Southampton

Are you basing this on actual experience or are you just saying what you hope? Just because there is a lot of choice (and i'm not even sure that there is) doesn't make it all appetising!
I was in catered halls for the past 2.5 years and there was many a time when i didn't particularly like anything that was being offered. It is much better now that you can use your credits towards meals on campus, but i would not have paid for catered halls on a personaly level because i don't like being told what/when to eat.
To each their own of course, but i can see why people opt for either options.ANYTHING WRITTEN BY ME ON THIS SITE DOES NOT REPRESENT THE VIEWS OF SOUTHAMPTON UNIVERSITY!

i look at it differently.
with my cooking skills if id gone self catered id be living on a rotation of omlettes, beans on toast and jacket potato w cheese. which i think after a few weeks will seriously leave me malnourished. atm when i get home after a 12hr shift i just sit in front of the tv till the starvation gets unbearable, and i find myself chasin around the kitchen lookin to grab the closet edible object. to avoid such scenarios i decided to go for catered.
im no fussy eater so ill be happy with anything they offer. no matter what im pretty sure itll be a healthier option than what i could prepare. what is important to me is that this takes away the worry of having to stress over my dinner all the time. PLUS it leaves me the weekends to practice my cookin and get it to a decent level before startin year 2. (sorri i think ive mentioned that before)
im happy with my choiceUniversity of Southampton

For me self catered just seemed the obvious way to go. I only eat cereal for breakfast so theres no point paying £3 for it. And yeah sandwiches are ok but i can knock my own up quite quickly and for cheaper. Im just on a tight budget and when il probably be happy survivng on tinned soup and cheese on toast I might as well.
