    UKCAT Forum

There's a new UK medical school admissions test coming out, the UKCAT so we've just opened the UKCAT Forum - come and say hello if you are taking this exam.

This exam will apparently be used for the Oxford GEM program next year. You have been warned.

Kirst, you should post in the new UKCAT forum which is under medical exams, then premed exams. Heres the link: http://www.medschoolguide.co.uk/forum/ukcat/
There is a thread regarding your question already.

There isn't one, this is the first year of them doing the UKCAT.

Can't see them releasing this year's test next year anyway. It's not something you can revise for really.

Just need lots of caffeine (to wake your brain up) before it

Hey guys....just want to post up the beggining of my personal statement to see wat you think......feel free to give any critisisms! im having real problems getting it to flow! Anyway here it is........

What initially drew me to dentistry was my interest in the dental casts lying in the kitchen and the gruesome yet intriguing oral medicine books in the bookcase. This is where my fascination began, spurred on by the family interest in dentistry.
However, my understanding of and passion for the subject has deepened greatly since this early age due to the large amount of time I have spent in a dental environment. My work experience in the field of dentistry – both formal and informal - began at a young age when I would shadow my father at work and ask frequent questions. As a consequence I am aware of how challenging a career as a dentist can be. Having the ability to undertake precision work in adverse conditions, all the while keeping patients calm and happy would provide me with the challenge I seek in a career. I am especially drawn to the interpersonal skills required to be a successful dentist (such as communication and sympathy????). I look forward to putting these skills to effective use in understanding and allaying patients’ anxieties. What motivates me is knowing I will be doing a job I enjoy whilst assisting patients in maintaining and improving their oral health, quality of life and appearance.

Might that come across as your family/parents pushed you into dentistry, rather than it being your own decision. Maybe try to make it more towards them being "supportive and understanding" rather than "spurred you, encouraged you or kicked you up the backside" sorta thing. :P
