what do you think the biggest challenge facing drs and nurses will be over the next ten years?
tell us about foundation hospitals...
what do you think are the pros and cons of foundation status?
what would you do... cure one patient for a cost of £10,000,000 or cure 10,000,000 patients for £1 each?
how do you feel you will be able to mix with people seven years younger than you at med school?
why didn't you do your medical training when you were 18?
can't remember anymore... was nearly a year ago even tho it should be burned on my soul.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi guys,
I thought it might help a few of you anxious people with interviews if you had an idea of what your in for.
People who've had your interviews, please post yours here
I had my interview on 25th Feb. There was only 3 other people being interviewed on the same day!
Here are my questions:
-Tell me about yourself (eek!)
-Why medicine?
-Why Sheffield?
-What did you do on your work experience?
-Give me an example of where you had to be caring
-What would you contribute if you came here?
-Give me 3 qualities that you think would be evident in a good doctor
-Talked about my duties with St. John Ambulance, so they asked me to give situations of where I had to be a leader and a teamplayer
-something about evidence based medicine
-what problems do you think will face in the future?
-any questions? (my advice is don't ask any here. When I said that all my questions had been answered by the prospectus, they smiled and one of them said "oh the sub-dean will be happy to hear that n smiled"
Overall, the interview lasted about 20 mins. I got an offer, ABB, yesterday, 3rd March
Hope this helps someone. Good luck if you've got an interview soon.

i know that sheffield may ask some ethical questions but the whole interview isn't ethical based is it, its not like peninsula where the whole interview is based on an ethical scenario,,,is it?

No - you may be asked ethics-based questions as part of the interview, but that isn't the focus. It's usually explored if you bring up an ethical issue yourself.

Hi,
I'm in Year 12, and i'm interested in studing medicine particularily in HYMS. I was wondering if you could tell me what your interview was like there? What were some of the questions like. Do you know of some of the qualities they particularily liked to see whilst during the interview (in comparison with other schools I mean)
Thanks for the help

I think your best posting on the HYMS medical school forum if you want answers to that.
You don't need to know what quanlities they want to see in an interview. You have an interview to see who you are. You more likely to get a place if you show them who you are than play the game kind of thing.

Different unis like or prefer different things in their candidates. Some for example prefer to take in graduate students and emphasize on seeing maturity and experiences of teamwork and resposibility. Others put more emphasis on motivation and enthusiasm.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with knowing what universities like, so that one can talk more about these attributes or qualities in his life by example. If I didnt need to know these things, they wouldnt have mentioned it in their prospectuses and admissions policies. "Play the game"...dunno where you'recoming from.
But, my bad for posting the question in this forum. It was only a reply to someone on this forum.

Questions I got asked:
-Why Sheffield
-Why medicine
-What are the major problems a doctor has
-what are the major problems the NHS has
-how do i cope with stress
-if you dug up a skeleton in your garden, how would you say what gender it was
-(i talked about how i like to go for a run to relax) so, what happens to your body when you run
-then what happens to the blood (talked about chemoreceptors in medulla and the aorta, followed by:
-how is H+ conc. assesed in medulla,
-so, how is H+ removed from medulla.
-what buffers H+ in medulla
The interview was held on 19.12, hope this helps anybody.
Also, there were two panels - panel 1 had a cardiologist, panel 2 had a surgeon; the surgeon asked the scientific questions, the cardiologist - kind of "what are qualities of a good leader" questions.
