Chances of getting into medicine with 4A's and a B
I am doing 5 highers:
Human Biology
English
Modern Studies
Chemistry
Maths
My secondary 4 grades:
Int 2 English - A
Int 2 French - A
Standard Grade Chemistry - 1
Standard Grade Biology -1
My main concern is gettin an A in English. Do universities even consider applicants with 4A's and a B seriously? As I am sure they get hundreds of 5A applicants.
Also, does anyone think I made a bad decision by not taking Physics to standard grade or higher?
Also, how much does it affect your chances of getting into a medical school if you go to a private school?
Are there any particular universities which are biased towards applicants from public schools?Last edited by kazaam; 04-02-2010 at 12:25 AM.

Each question in turn...
I'm in with 4A's and a B with the B being in English, so yes they do take them seriously.
Not a big deal about Physics, some universities may need it to some level but in that case you could always take a crash higher in sixth year. Dundee say physics to higher level "would be benificial to the student" however it's not a requirement.
No difference whatsoever if you go to public or private school.
No.Aberdeen first year, it's bloody awesome up here.

they do take AAAAB seriously but what kind of subjects you are doing will also matter.
Not taking Physics won't stop you from getting into a medical school but Physics is sooooo useful and pretty easy so I don't know why people don't do it, it honestly makes life a lot easier when you do get in.
And no it doesn't matter what kind of school you are from, the grades/personal statement/interview are the important stuff to worry about.
Good luck!

I got an interview with 4 A's and a B (B in English)
It was many years ago, but I'm sure they consider everyone over min. entry requirements as an equal.2011 Medicine (conditional!)...and 2010 Ultra runner (<that happened!!!) (:

I have friends who got in with AAABB - three of them! So yeah its possible, they just had a slightly higher target for their conditionals compared to 5 A friends. I got AAAAC for mine and they didnt seem to like that though i'm sure you'll be fine. And you could always crash higher physics in sixth year if you plan to stay on!
