Please do post any relevant inf :)

Hi, I am an asylum seeker in the country. I have come across two or so unis who accept asylum seekers as home students, but they don't do medicine. I am searching for more and have emailed a few to find out my fee status, but they all say I will be classified as an international student Obviously I have more financial barriers than any of my mates applying. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if anyone comes across any relevant information, or knows of any uni that may accept me as a home student, please DO POST I only have four choices, like all others, so have to be sensible in applying. I only rely on scholarships, which are really competitive, also if anyone knows of any asylum seekers going into uni, please let me know. If nothing more, it will give me hope

    I have no idea.
However, I would imagine the longer you have been in the country the better your chances would be - I don’t know your circumstances, but I know international students (from outside EU) are awarded a visa - I hope this is not possible but if there was any risk of you being deported, you can see why a medical school would theoretically be hesitant to invest in you.

I'm sure you have already, but when writing to unis explain that you have studied in Scotland and you know the language, culture etc.

I'm convinced there will be a solution for you – involve your school - get in touch with your local MP/MSP - if you still have no luck contact the media, for it would be unfair if essentially on a technicality you cannot pursue your desired career.

    I hope all works out

(By the way, in reference to your signature - I think you can study AH with only a B in the related Higher)

I have been told, families no longer will get deported. But, cases remain pending FOREVER. I know families who are waiting for decisions for over six years. Only one asylum seeker I have heard of in my area who went to uni, she got a scholarship and did 6 highers, all As. I have involved a youth support worker in who says she will help me get a scholarship or something. I am waiting on my UKCAT and highers results, before involving anyone further, because atleast if i get good grades/score I will be able to say I atleast have a chance of getting into uni, so they might help me more. But, I asked a member of the YMCA and she said, "Sorry, you won't be able to study further. You are not supposed to be studying after 16, it is your own choice so you get no help!".....WHAT? I mean ser WHAT? Who in the world doesn't have the right to acquire knowledge? Till now I have emailed unis only saying that I have financial barriers, but now I am gonna add that culture bit aswell. Thanks

(In ref to sig: I took four adv highers, if I don't get 5 As I will drop 1.................Maybe lolzzz )

well good luck - and be persistent - don't accept the YMCA thing - I am no expert but that cannot be accurate - there must be provisions for people in your position - when you do email unis I would explicitly detail your circumstances, for everyone essentially has financial barriers of one extent or another (including home students) - your situation is of coarse all together different
(if it comes to it down the line involve your MP - he/she should be in the best position to help if you have a good one - Westminster is also now in recess, so this is a good time to catch his/her attention)
