I only got a 3 for Standard Grade English so...
even if I get As for my Highers (Maths, 3 sciences), a B for Modern Studies and I do well in advanced highers will I still be automatically rejected from Edinburgh, Glasgow and St. Andrews?

NO ONE can tell you whether you WILL GET REJECTED, without even applying or even after applying. The best thing to do is I say email the unis stating u r not doin higher eng. Glasgow required a minimum of a 3 in SG eng, but last year or so it was raised to a 2 atleast. So tbh you should do higher eng, and there has also been this thing going around that some unis are now requiring higher "eng" as a general entry req. Hope that helps.

Hey, Edinburgh require the usual AAAAB for us scots. 5 A's for Edinburgh entry just helps
Having said that, Edinburgh is notoriously hard to get into with many candidates who have AAAAA still getting rejected. Rough numbers are approx 2500 applicants for 200 something places. Although Edinburgh don't require higher English, they do require a credit S.G. So my advice would be contact them re English before applying so you don't essentially waste a space on your UCAS form....

Hey WangTang1, Best advice is to contact the uni's directly, they have admissions staff who are there to help....do not let the advice of a few on here affect your application, go straight to the source and find out the correct information!!!
