standard grades: six 1s and two 2s
hey, im doing my highers now in english, maths, bio, chem, phys and planning to apply for medicine, but not sure what standard grades u need! should get 4A and B (english)
does anybody know as i got 6x1 and 2x2 (english and geo) and not sure if this is good or bad! does anybody know which unis best to apply to with standard grades as most dont mention it in prospectus. most people ive asked have got 8x1 which is worryin me? should i be worried?
what im really interested in is whether any1 got any personal experience with these STANDARD GRADE results and got in? which unis?

I definitely know people who got in with those results. I think Standard Grades are a huge irrelevance provided they're decent and you have the matriculation requirements - for St Andrews, I think you used to at least need credit maths and english
Some schools don't even do them any more. Do check with the universities (especially Edinburgh, especially if you're from a private school) but I imagine you should be fine. I'm pretty sure eg Glasgow don't give extra points for especially good S Grades - unlike England where GCSEs are a better differentiator than A-Levels (hence why English med schools set so much store by them), in Scotland it's sensibly the other way around and Highers and AHs are far harder to get very high grades in. Good luck.

If you're looking at applying in Scotland, I wouldn't worry about it - Highers are much more important. I got those results for SG
If you can convert them into AAAAB then you'll have little to worry about at most Unis.
England might be slightly different but even there Advanced Highers are more important (as far as I know!).Glasgow 5th Year

As long at you've passed maths and English at least with a 3, and you have high grades in the sciences, nobody cares. As encouragement, I'll tell you that you did MUCH better than me in your standard grades, and I'm in medical school now. Highers are infinitely more important, so absolutely push yourself in fifth year. Good luck!
