Ooh, I need to do this... It's been sitting on a table in my living room for nearly a week.
Question, do I need to put all my bank details in, even though it's going to be free. I guess you do if it's on the form...Leicester Fresher Medic 09

ok guys i need a bit of advice, i joined the bma online the other day. ive had an email this morning from someone to say that my direct debit details were invalid and to forward them to this person. obviously im not very happy about this so i havent sent anything. i just replied to ask which parts werent valid and i would forward that bit but that i wouldnt send my whole bank account details. ive now had a reply to say if i want to discuss it to phone her up. but im still not really happy phoning her up on the number in her email and i dont know how to find her number any other way.
it could be/probably is legit, but im not happy about the request to send my bank details over the internet. any ideas? should i just leave it and join when i get to uni (at the bma stand?).Nottingham GEM 2009

To dances_with_lamposts,
Yes, if you're not comfortable giving your bank details over the phone or by email, it's probably best to speak to the rep at the Freshers' Fair.
Also, note to all other new Freshers, when you join at the Freshers' Fairs the reps always give out a pack of freebies, so it's best to wait rather than sign up online.
After 1st year, memebership is ~£30 or £36 a year, depends if you want a paper copy of the sBMJ and studentBMJ News sent directly in the post to you, a part from that, I don't really see that many other benefits for UGs.

there are tons of benefits. For starters it's a bit like insurance, you can't sign up and enjoy the benefits once you're in trouble. E.g. they'll help you if you fail a year, have a fitness to practice issue, finance stuff etc etc. Not to mention when you get to 5th year they organise contract clinics.
