Is it worth joining in your first year?

Hello,
I was just wondering if any current medical students could tell me whether its worth joining the RSM in your first year?

Esp. if you're not going to university in London (therefore far away from where most of the talks/conferences for students are held)?

What are really the benefits to joining (couldn't really find much info on the website).

I know most med students are members of the student BMA but are many members of RSM as well?

Thanks.

The RSM is a great institution for doctors and medical students. Obviously it is a lot easier to benefit if you are in London.

They have some great prizes for medical students, which I think you can enter without being a member.

How much is it to join for a medical student?

A year's student membership costs £30 and you get a year's subscription to the JRSM.

not much to lose for £30, but that's just my humble, unqualified opinion

yeah but I'd prefer some new shoes (hey, I am a girl!) instead, if the memebrship is completly useless! and £30 could go towards a nice new textbook when I'm a poor student!
