There's always emigration...though don't come to Ireland if you do decide to take that route. Even though we're required to have six A1s to get into med school here the points aren't getting any lower because the government has placed a cap on the amount of medical students. Their reasoning for this is so that there won't be more doctors than the economy can sustain...and the economy is taking a serious downturn at the moment.RIP the celtic tiger

Hey this is an interesting thread. Going back to Marc's initial response, are you basically implying that the current disatisfaction and difficulties are just a result of the large number of changes introduced in such a short period of time and as such would most likely be 'ironed out' in 5-6 years time after the OP has endured his course :-) ? It sounds to me like the changes Marc describes should have some good long term benefits but maybe some short term pain. Or am I just being too blindly optimistic?

Nobody can accurately predict how things will end up. At the moment things are particularly bad, but some way or another a new equilibrium will be reached. The publication of the Tooke report hints that perhaps we will see a return to a system very similar to 3 years ago.
In the long run either a) things will be ironed out and the NHS will return to effective-ish working or b) things will have been so buggered that the NHS will implode and private healthcare will emerge.
I would venture that Tony and/or Gordon would much prefer option B as it would mean they no longer have to pay for the NHS and could therefore build a whole platoon of trident nuclear subs to make britain, once again the global superpower- aka Mother Britain.

Someone please respond
Thanks Marc for your first post on this forum, it addressed a few of my concerns.
I am a post-graduate applying for both graduate and undergraduate medicine (2008 entry). I have a BSc Biomedical Sciences (2.1) and MSc Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases (B+). My question is simply How difficult is life after medical school? Will having these qualifications (BSc and MSc) be of some help regarding job prospects? Will it make it easier to get F1, F2 and beyond placements at all or will I still be ranked as everyone else and be in the same boat as those without these qualifications (meaning will it just be my medical degree that matters)?
In genaral, how difficult is life after medical school? How are you finding things, ito MMC and how do you think I'll be affected say in 4/5 years?
I would be grateful for some insight from those facing the same, those who have started or are applying for F1 and F2 posts, anyone who has just completed medical school (most preferably within the last few years) and final year medical students or anyone who has some answers, please. I thank you in anticipation of some responses.
EDIT: I also have a couple of publications (so far).

Dr C.
why are you continuously posting the same thread? Have you nothing else to say for yourself?

Isn't it obvious that I am looking for answers, you obviously don't have the answer or aren't concerned. In any case I shan't dignify your second question with a reply!

I'm just saying. You dont need to constantly ask the same question, if someone wants to answer it they will. just be patient.

Well, I see what you say but then I've posted on different threads so as to reach out to many. If I'd continuosly posted on the same thread then I'd seriously take your concerns into account. (I don't read all threads on this website, I only select a few that are relevant hence I assume that everyone else does the same- consequently, I have posted the same questions on a four different threads. By doing this I am hoping to target a wider audience, this is sound logic OK! (Anywhere I do NOT have to justify anything to you) so please do NOT comment on how I go about it as you obviously don't know my reasons... Besides, I am rather content with this method!
