    a decent opinion needed

um i guess i am in need of some advice as to whether or not i am in an advantageous or disadvantageous position...

i left school initially at 18 with a 10 gcses with a 'mean' average of an A. got 2 As and a B in my A levels in artsy subjects. the intention at that point was a career in professional sport, but due to injury i am no longer able to play at the same standard. however since then i have travelled widely and done a lot of voluntary work abroad some with a doctor, as well as some work exp in my local hospital. i have also taken chem phys bio and got 3 grade As in that so i now have 6 a levels. 5 As and a B. even if they were done in two bursts. would i get credit for having taught myself the sciences in 4 months? i also play a lot of competitive sports still tennis rugby etc and could certainly represent the uni in the sport i used to initially planned on spending my life doing!

Am i at a disadvantage against students coming straight from school? Where would you pitch yourself if you were in my shoes uni wise? for the record im good at the ukcat and bmat style exams, so i would fancy my chances at being in the top 10-20 per cent or so of all people that sit them, how much weight do they seem to carry? im 23 btw.

    thanking you in advance...

You have some people stating medicine at the age of 40 so I do not believe you will be disadvantaged. Have you applied yet or are you thinking of applying?

Go for it man! theres nothing to loose if you do not get in... try again!. Also, ring up unis and ask them their opinion if its worth going there. And dont worry about the age factor, I know of plenty of people who apply for medicine late!

Sounds like great credentials to me! As a mature/grad i always think its best to ring and get the info directly from the horses mouth. Remember for UCL, so long as you get above 19 and 4.5 each section on BMAT, blah blah, your guarenteed an interview. Im in and i dont even have great A levels! (did do a degree though)
