There is some official policy saying that they have to be declared and signed in and such, but I think "don't ask don't tell" will work also.

Yeah, which means that they always need to be signed in, as the fire alarm can and will go off at any time. However, I don't know anybody who ever actually registered their guests with reception.

There's always the weigh up, do I stay and risk getting caught (and made to do the washing up in the kitchens after dinner for a week) or go and look like a ninny freezing cold in the courtyard?

A fire alarm went off in the hotel I was staying in, the night before my interview.

I rushed out in my pajamas with little pigs all over, and felt rather foolish.

Until I saw the man standing naked, hiding behind a pot plant....
    UCL really.

In the end I got dressed and someone knocked on my door to get me out...

If the fire alarm wasn't so bloody annoying and loud none of us would ever bother leaving the building...

It's always someone smoking or someone burning something in the kitchen...

(Saying that, I managed to leave oil frying in the kitchen and 15 minutes later had to put out a mini-fire... lol... you should have seen the steam and my halls mates face when he walked in after all my shouting...)

He obviously took teachers VERY seriously when they told us in primary school, to leave a building AS SOON as we heard the alarm.
