Do you mean radiography? I think radiology is when you’re a Doctor in it. Radiographers are the people who actually take the x rays. Or so I have been told anyway by someone who is studying radiography at Salford University at the mo.

I know Salford was really competitive to get into but I have no idea about anywhere else. Sorry.

I was going to go in for radiography until I actually did a day of it in a hospital. That’s when I realised it was a Doctor that I really wanted to be! Don't give up on medicine yet! There are still months of interviews/offers to go yet.
Courage is not the absence of fear but the decision that something else is more important than the fear

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead
where there is no path and leave a trail.

I initially applied to study medicine but missed my A level grades. Im currently studying radiography, finishing my 4yr course this year. Think the grades for university of ulster are currently ABB, but you should check the online prospectus.

Even after 4 years though i still want to do medicine and im applying for 2006 entry. My advice would be go for medicine: radiography isnt a substitute, but has however given me more confidence and a good foundation for my future studies. I would consider a career as a radiologist now.

I applied to Cardiff to do Therapeutic Radiography - they rejected me because my personal statement was for medicine and it "didn't show committment to radiography". There were no places in UCAS Xtra as far as I know (although there were places at other unis), but I got an email from them a few weeks ago asking if I was still interested in their course, as they had places available. Luckily for me I'd already secured a place on a graduate radiotherapy course.

I desperately wanted to be a GP, but I'm really enjoying therapeutic radiography.

Ok, so it's not medicine, but it's not an easy option either. It doesn't require really high A-level grades, but that's mainly due to there being less demand for places. In anatomy, we have already covered an awful lot in only 2 weeks and we start clinical placement in 4 weeks' time.

Radiotherapy (not sure about diagnostic radiography) is a protected profession and there is a shortage of radiotherapists (at least in my part of the country) that means I will walk into a job on graduation.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I think if you can't get into medicine, are looking to do something else and was interested in medicine because of the patient care aspect, the allied health professions are a much better bet than biomedical sciences (who wants to be stuck in a lab 5 days a week?!).
South Bank University, PgDip Therapeutic Radiography 2007 - almost finished and have just been offered a job!!!

    Smile Radiography at university...

    heyyy

I am planning on doing Radiography at Cardiff university ..i have just completed my radiography work experience at a local hospital.

Does anybody have any idea on how many hours a day..and therefore days in the week you study doing the course at (any) university?

    and one more thing...

I've heard that the course is very demanding compared to most courses is this true?

    thanks!
    Jon
