    Fast-Track Psychiatry training scheme?

Does one exist? I heard something about there being one, due to the chronic shortage of consultants.

Does anyone know about this? How does it work (if it's true). How long does it take before you can apply for consultant posts

p.s I know how long the standard route is. I'm specifically interested in the workings of this new route. (if it's true!!!)

p.p.s the poll is inspired by some less than favourable comments I've heard about psychiatry as a specialty. It in no way reflects my views. It's not likely to - I'm considering it myself.

    cheers

    Jonathan

psychiatry can be a really dangerous speciality, a patient tried to strangle my mum with a telephone cord and then hit her on the head with the telephone

    i definitely admire psychiatrists

i would be really interested in psychiatry, coz when i graduate ill be a graduate member of the British psychological society and i did loads of psychology modules. I read somewhere that around 50% of psychiartrists get depressed by their patients, but as ive got an upbeat personality i think that ill cope. Psychiatry appeals to me coz of the more flexible hours.

Bhavna, is ur mom a psychiatrist?

Newsflash - the fast track training scheme for psychiatrists is an urban myth, apparantley. just had an email from a guy at the royal college of psychiatrists.
