I certainly hope this lack of respect and humility does not inform your clinical work or I suspect your clinical career may be over before it has started

I would also like to express my concern that you are working in excess of 100 hours a week in contravention of the EWTD - does your boss know because it will get his job deregistered? Also does he know he is taking responsibility for an unregistered doctor 'holding a patient down whilst injecting IV Haloperidol?', a practice not conforming to any algorithm for acute sedation I am aware of, and who has been apparently sectioning people - I presume you are not approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act, and as a PRHO a section 5(2) is beyond your professional competence.

Thank you, and could I encourage the other respondents to this thread to explore a challenging but fascinating speciality.
Thank you Danh. I do not believe that any post has got me so angry as James' original post. I have worked with many psychiatrists and the vast majority (yes the MAJORITY) love their jobs and went into psychiatry for all the right reasons. I am certainly considering psychiatry as a specialty because I find it interesting and very rewarding. Please do not patronise us James, just because you have a few years experience more than us.

James whoever u are,U are getting mixed up with your xenophobia, stigmatising attitude, ignorance and lack of respect and dignity for yourself and others. U indeed seem to have a lot of issues and showing such lack of respect for other specialities and foreign doctors is only a sign of insecurity and low self esteem. U really need help. I am a psychiatrist (foreign!) and I,m well respected in my field and definetely would recommend students who are interested in psychiatry- But beware it is a speciality where u have to have certain kind of personality I believe-most important - non-judgemental and high level of respect for the speciality. Psychiatry has only helped me to become a better doctor and better human being!

Here's an interesting question for you. I am interested in psychiatry, and want to learn about it, but I don't want to go to med school. I have looked on the web for information about psychiatry and the information is usually irrelevant or outdated. I realise that I can study psychiatry by going to the library, but I would really be interested to listen to an instructor that knows the rights books to look at. Is there a way for me to only study psychiatric medicine? I would like to know about different psychiatric meds, how they interact with each other, the history of psych med, and the future. What are the chances I can sit in on classes without going for a degree? Thanks.

For me it's a choice rather than a hobson's choice.
