Correct term? Someone help.
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if the term "retarded" is used to describe a patients limited ability? To me this term seems outdated and somewhat offensive, but maybe I am wrong.
Can anyone help?Last edited by cj09; 18-11-2009 at 09:58 AM.

Yes definitely not PC and hasnt been for many years.
Tend to use learning disability/developmental delay.BSc (2005), BM (2006), MRCPCH (2010)

Thank you! I didn't think it was PC anymore, but I think people (including doctors, psychiatrists etc) still use it in different parts of the world to describe a persons disability. I think it's wrong.
