Standalone F2 posts... Need Advice - South Thames Foundation School

    Hi

Am in South Thames Foundation School, and have been allocated a 2-year post at East Kent Hospitals, Margate for F1/F2.

My partner and I own a flat in London, and so 2 years away is a really awful prospect.

Have toyed with withdrawing, taking a year out, and reapplying in 2010, but of course this has its downsides. The medical school has discouraged me from doing this. After 6 years, all I want to do is work as a doctor.

Does anyone know about standalone F2 posts after F1? Clearly, I'd want to try and get out of Margate after F1. What is the availability of these?

People will always get sick, have babies, resign etc. So if you are a good applicant, perform ok at FY1 etc it's probably possible. Your Foundation School will need to agree the transfer, so finding out how this works (informally) is a good place to start. Nobody will have any post numbers for months (probably more than 12!).

Oh, and you will probably only have access to the "unpopular" rotations that are left over after internal allocation.

Ye... to be honest, I think I got the least popular one in the whole School as it stands...

what about taking it a step further and doing a stand alone F1 followed by a standalone F2?

cpe03, I too have been allocated the East Kent F2 and am dreading having to commute from Kent. When applying for the job you are told to chose a prefered hospital (Ashford, Canterbury, Margate) then rank the jobs. I have chose Ashford as it is the closest (crap jobs), but am really dreding it. So, I would be interested in any info regarding F2 stand alone posts. There were F2 posts advertised on the STFS website when I started my F1.... so fingers crossed.
