MDAP is no more!
Well, ok it's now MTAS. Has anyone else heard of what they've come up with now? Or is it just at Leeds they've decided to let loose?

We've heard at Warwick too, with the percentile scheme and acaedemics now making up 60% of the application. Has produced quite a large number of unhappy people.

What have you been told about it? What do you mean by percentile thing?

Top 25% of students (based on academic ranking) ge tthe full 60 marks for their form, the next 25% of students get 45 so on until the bottom 25% of students get 15 marks

Just heard the same thing today at Sheffield. Rather oddly we were told that a reflections portfolio would be vital for getting a job - exactly how reflection and (presumably) exam grades marry up, I'm not sure. The implication seemed to be that the reflections would impact the 60/45/30/15 mark bit?

Apart form our pre-clinical marks we get a part of our mark from our ICE exam and elective report ...
not the best way to asses our whole clinical experience.. 2 marks for 2 1/2 years of work

We've got an "E-Portfolio" that we're supposed to fill out as we go along, documenting our experience with 92 core problems. Again, I'm not too clear how they'd translate that into a national marking scheme..
I reckon we're all in the same boat, just got to suck it up till they change it again (couple of months tops no doubt).

Personally I think its a bad scheme mainly because medschools are designed to test basic competence to be a HO and not to put you into a quartile. Its a bit ill thought, I would have prefered they concentrated on what was wrong with last years form and certainly didn't give 60% weighting to the academic component. Sadly this isn't the medschools fault its been out of their hands from what I understand. I've certainly lost faith in those who organise our training after we qualify. Its like being a spectator at a farce. Though Warwick has been very good in discussing it and listening to our views on how it should be implemented.

The med schools have been told they need to put people into quartiles. How they do this is up to them.
Also, about the fact that you won't be applying to individual jobs, you'll be applying to Foundation Schools. It is then up to the foundation school to put you in a particualr job. How they do this is up to them (indeed some foundation schools will be doing it randomly). eek!Leeds Widening Access to Medical School (WAMS) Scheme
