Follow your academic interests for that is where you will likely succeed, and it will provide you with a fall-back plan if you decide not to attend medical school. Medical school can follow any major, as long as one full year of chemistry, biology, physics, and organic chemistry at the college level are completed with good grades.

A bachelors degree is needed before medical school (usually 4 years). Medical school is 4 years in the U.S. Residency is 3-6 years, depending on the area.
