I'm a bit confused about what "counts" as an interdisciplinary team?
I know what one is persay, but I'm planning to write in my PS about the process and my experience of going through surgery (should be getting that sorted out in a couple of months). I know that by the end I'd have experienced the primary/secondary/tertiary healthcare side of things, it's just this that's bugging me. So here's the stupid question:
Do members multidisciplinary team have to actually be in the same team?
For example, I went to my GP, got referred to physiotherapy, then got referred to a physiotherapy specialist, then got referred to orthopaedics (and currently awaiting my consultation). Does that count as a multidisciplinary team? =S

Isn't it wonderful when you realise you put the wrong word in the title, and can't change it?
I meant multidisciplinary, as said in my post. Ignore the title. Ugh..: I really like PURPLE :.

That would be seen as a multidisciplinary team since they all had a part to play in your care and sufficient communication would have been needed between the GP, physiotherapist, physiotherapist specialist, etc. in order to ensure that you were treated adequately. You can also try and attend a multidisciplinary meeting in a hospital if you want more experience.

Ahhh that's grand, thanks! I just didn't know if, for example, all members of a multidisciplinary team needed to be working close together, like how surgeons and anaesthetists do, for example. Thanks for clearing that up =].

Mutlidiscplinary team = Nurse, HCA, Volunteer, Pharmacist, Aneasthetist and Doctor.
This would be a common team delivering multidisciplinary care to a patient. The Doctor would own the paitent relation and lead the team, but count on each team members expertise ie for advise on the anaesthetic of choice to use during op, and the choice medication post op from the pharmacist etc...1st Year GEM Medical Student, University College Dublin
