I think worse things could happen than you getting into both

It's mentioned on most uni websites, and the ones I looked at don't do deferrals. That or they do, but you have to specify on your application that you want to defer, and you're competing for very few spots.

Ben - I know that Kings asked for a break down of my MSc before they offered me an interview, so it must have ticked a box somewhere and my MSc was in Marketing and Management! So your planned one sounds way more relevent...I think you've got the right idea, see how you go on the UKCAT front and then make your decisions. I think you are right about Bristol, and Liverpool is also the same there is no extra entrance test. Also if you end up doing your MSc at Bristol you have a whole year of ground work you can do at Bristol :-) Good Luck with whatever you decide.

Roll up, roll up!
Hi everyone in the support group.
I'm going to apply for 2011. Not sure where yet, since my gf is waiting for offers to study somewhere. I'll apply to places that fit in with that.
Don't have much work experience yet. At the moment I'm in China teaching English, which has a pastoral care angle. Also have done some volunteering in a hospital here. I've done a day (and plan to do more) with an organisation that works with autistic kids, cerebral palsy sufferers and the elderly. I also plan to do more when I get back to blighty. You can't have too much methinks!
My degree is a 1:1 in physics.
Exciting prospects!

Hi everyone.
My gf got offered a place in Southampton uni, so it looks like I'll be applying to Southampton, a couple of London schools, and Oxford (if UKCAT goes smoothly (big if)). All GEP, but I'm not rich. I feel like the odds are against us at the moment, but they have to let someone in, don't they?

Hey,
I'm going to be applying this summer for entry in 2011..
currently finishing off second year in Molecular Medicine and Biochemistry at Uni. of Essex
I think i need some help, i've been looking around soo much and have only managed to get a couple of days of work experience, hardly any medical related voluntary work (although i do have a great deal of nonmedically related voluntary work)
i'm heavily involved in some societies at uni such as president of medical society and
secretary in st johns ambulance
Ive been applying for part time jobs in healthcare and nurseries etc. but no luck (they all want previous health care experience)
Depending on my UKCAT, im not sure if i'll apply to any 4 year courses, i'm thinking of doing mainly 5 year ones like Queen Marys and Liecester and Hull York
anyone know any websites where you can find part time work in health care or hospitals, without the need of previous experience?
p.s. any help/advice would be appreciated
Good luck to everyone!Last edited by hashstranger; 01-04-2010 at 05:41 PM.

Hi everyone, I'm mid way through my second year of Biomedical Science at St George's, on for a 2:1, hopefully also applying this summer for 2011.
For work experience I have been volunteering in an old people's home for the past 6 months on weekends, shadowed a doctor and will be teaching english to foreign children over the summer holidays. I'm more involved in sports societies than the charity and healthcare related ones which I fear may hinder me, I play rugby, badminton and table tennis all at first team standard for the uni and helped set up an ultimate frisbee team.
I was in pretty much the same position as you, hashstranger, because its hard to find a job with no previous experience and not enough time to work full time. Your best bet would be to keep looking on NHS jobs website for jobs in the band 2 pay region and look around your area for elderly peoples homes and just explain your situation and whether they would mind you volunteering.
I'm hopefully applying for the St George's (4yr) and Aberdeen (5yr), haven't decided on the last 2 choices yet.

You might consider contacting doctors who are associated with your universities. Maybe you have profs who are also doctors, or who work with doctors... Go to their office hours and ask if you could get some names and contact information. I did something similar to find my work placement in a hospital (in France though).

Hey hashstranger, the band 2 post usually don't really require any previous experience just some commitment, areas such as phlebotomy or hca are what you should be looking for, but they are quite rare and get picked up quite quickly as everyone is looking for the same thing so you just have to get lucky.
Good Luck
