what is the big deal for teachers to predict the grades the pupils need?seriously what is the reprocussion on them if they do?
it is such bollocks that he can insult u as well. and should it not be your teahcer who has the say on ur bio prediction here?what has the head of sixth form got to do with it?apart from being the head i mean in my school the actual teachers did the predicting.

tell me about it!!
Anyway Harry, a friend of mine who applied last year was in the same position as you. She got her parents involoved and everything but the teachers wouldn't budge - they predicted her AAC like you. Her form tutor even suggested that she go for nursing instead because "it doesn't ask for really good grades"
The good thing is she got into Kings and has just started her first year! So just apply anyway - you've got nothing to lose
Good luck
Sam!

That is terrible. He has no business being so rude about a student's application like that. Teachers have the obligation to inform you if they think you'll face difficulty in applying, or will be at a disadantage to others, but there's no reason to be so cruel about it.
And remember, if the worst comes to the worst, get a related degree and some experience, and apply as a graduate. Life's long, and there's more than one path to happiness, or medicine!
Good luck, and hope you prove that idiot wrong!

Teachers can be such A-holes
I am a reapplicant and asked my former head of 6th form to look and forward my PS to an english teacher, plus ammend her reference...there wasnt any problem of predicted grades cos i already had AAA, but anyway....
By accident she forwarded an email to me that was only supposed to be to the teacher with comments such as
'he is not smart or savy enough to be a doctor'
'try ur best, but dont expect much'
'he has a personality of a nat'
Now that really peed me off, but tried not to get in the way of my application, but then realised that the reference might be really bad....so we took it up with the head and all this, got some1 else to write a reference, she sent me a apolgy letter and all that, just shreded it .

That sounds horrible! I think that they are not allowed to write bad references, correct me if I am wrong. They should tell you if they cannot provide you with a decent/good reference so that you can ask someone else.
I hope she learned her lesson about sending nasty emails. I hope that you get in this time around. Best of luck to you.

aribo, which college is it, may i ask?
its kinda ridiculous the situation they ave put you in, becso we all know we can all do better when push comes to shove, so why are they treating you different? unfair.
notice you are aiming going south for the good weather?

Hey everyone, sorry it's taken a while to post anything further, this weeks been spent trying to sort the whole thing out...
The long and short of it is that they won't budge on the prediction, phone conversations between my parents and the head of sixth form and headmaster basically echoed the things he said to me in a more polite way...as a final shot my brother and I went to see my biology head at college just now and he, very reasonably, explained that to predict me a C would be making him sacrifice his professional responsibility to give optimistic but realistic predictions on the group...
The whole things been one long loop of frustration because clearly I don't have enough time to prove to the biology department and indeed the college that I can improve the grades, seeing as the deadline for applications is the 15th...
I'm now considering other routes in, is it worth applying to one or two universities for medicine and the remaining three for biomedical sciences, or simply do a degree in one of the arts subjects that I am stronger in and going for graduate entry...so many questions :P
Anyway thanks for all your replies to date, they helped motivate me to keep trying with the college, even if unsuccessful!
Harry

Maybe you should swap and do Eng and History and Chem (there maybe some med schools that accept only one science, although I can understand you not wanting to). You could try this and then have a go at widening access maybe?
I dunno if its fraudulent to do so, but maybe you could say you were doing 4 A-levels hence get an AAAC prediction on your UCAS and then drop one. (Although maybe they'd pick it up at interview, see through your scheme, and shred you)
That's all I can think of... (you should watch out 'cos I don't really know what I'm on about, I'm just speculating)

Perhaps you could write a letter to the admissions at the schools that you apply to, explaining your situation?
