Science Degree for Graduate Entry
Does it matter what science degree you hold if you apply for graduate entry medicine? I was wondering what course choose for my firth option in the UCAS application. I want it to be something with which i can try for graduate enrty if i'm not accepted as an undergraduate for medicine. I know there are many poeple who choose Biomedical sciences, and i was wondering if this course gives any advantage when applying for graduate entry. Or can it be just any BSc degree?
If I were to choose Biomedical, what other career opportunities would i have?

Usually they specify in the prospectus which degrees they accept. I did Psychology with English Studies with a masters in Cognitive Neuropsychology and got accepted at Leicester. However, some universities don't accept Psychology as a science. Usually they say Biomedical Sciences, straight sciences such as Chemisty, or a medical professionals course such as Physiotherapy plus one year working in that profession. With mine, the Psychology was classed as this medical professionals category and they specified that I had to do one year full time in support work at a hospital. You really need to check with the medical school - and the downer is, the criteria might change by the time you get to applying for the GEP course. My advice is, if you are rejected from medicine (5 years), then fall back onto something that you enjoy - DONT do Biomedical Sciences if you feel that you will not have fun with it, do something else instead. At the end of the day, the assessors will be looking at you and your take on life.
To be honest, if you are going to take the GEP route, you need to have a different attitude to the application. You need to think that you are out to get life experience beforehand. They detect a person who was rejected as a school leaver and has just done any compatible 3 year course and then reapplied, very easily. For the 4 year course, they want people who are more worldly-wise cos they are aiming to try and bring more of that quality into the field.GEP 2008
