You have 6 choices in your UCAS form, only 4 of which can be used for Medicine. You can do what you want with the other two, but bear in mind that you're giving yourself double the work and may stand little chance getting your back up. Both these choices require commitment to be obvious in all candidates.

What dental course wants to take on a failed Medic? Think about that...

Yes you can. You can have 4 chocies for Medicine adn 1 for Dentistry. I am thinking about doing the same thing but know that Dentistry is almost just as tough as Medicine.

What uni's are you applying to?

im glad that its possible but incorporating dentistry into a med ps does seem a little dodgy, esp because theyre both v competitive.

Don't do it. I emailed Dundee about it and they said that admission tutors might be confused or doubt your credibility as they wouldn't know whether you are truly commited to either.

Personally I won't include a thing about dentistry because medicine is what I want to do. I don't want a straight rejection from my medical schools for showing interest in dentistry.

Dundee warned me about it so I won't include anything about that. It's really my 5th choice so I can't care less. I want to be a doctor, not a dentist.

Some Dentistry uni's are open-minded but most are not so choose carefully. Where are you applying?

I'm not sure if it would apply to Dentistry, but I remember someone who applied for Medicine and Optometry - they had to write two personal statements, one for each course.

Might be worth an anonymous phone call to the Dental Uni to see what they say about this...?

Yeah well some places ask you for 2 personal statements that's ture. Just know that entrance into Dentistry would still guarantee you a job though, entry into medicine has become unstable in terms of future prospects. I love medicine and I want to do it regardless but I am ready to emigrate if necessary.

I heard about Optometry how is it as a career?

i intercalated this year and someone who was graduating from the degree i was on had applied for medicine and been offered a place on dentistry after being rejected. not really helpful, but thought i'd share.
Medicine is the only career with a 100% fail rate - you spend years reviewing people in clinic, readmitting them, tweaking their inhalers, prolonging their dying process.
I want to do something useful with my life, like Orthopaedics.

Unless you want to be a maxillo-facial surgeon in which case you'd need a dental degree in addition to your medical one anyway.
