Smile 2008 entry timeline!

this may be a double post but whatever....lol

so, has anyone sent in their ucas for 2008 entry? where are you applyin? wot is ur 5th option? entry profile? etc....

then hopefully it will continue on to some of us getting interviews and then hopefully (!) offers! so its really just a timeline for applicants for 2008 entry!

i'm applyin for Peninsula, Southampton, East Anglia and I haven't decided what the other choice is (Glasgow, Aberdeen or Keele). I haven't come up with a 5th option yet!

Im applyin with 2 A*s, 5 As, 3Bs and 1 C at GCSE 2As and 2Bs at AS level and predicted AABB for A level. Loads of extra curricular stuff but lots of it is having to get cut due to the word limit lol!

keep posting if your applyin for 2008 entry!

Hello! Yes I've sent off my UCAS

Applying for Peninsula, Brighton and Sussex, Cardiff and Keele with AAC and an A in my AS level.

You think your gcse results are bad? I have 4As and 6Bs...no A*s at all!

I'm hoping my work experience will pay off.

Yeh, thats what I thought, by gaining plenty of experience, this may 'overshadow' my GCSE's to an extent! but we both meet the minimum required for the unis we're applying to so its all good! if you dont mind me asking, were you rejected last year? if so, do you think your GCSE's had an impact on this?

cheers and best of luck!

Yup you guessed it (and I don't mind at all - it's what this place is for, lol) I was rejected last year. I got 4 nos but then UEA sent me a letter saying they had re-considered and wanted to offer me an interview for a slighty different course - foundation medicine. Went to the interview and got another no.

I don't think my GCSEs had much of an impact no. I think it's because I had a bad "relationship" (can't think of the right word) with my teacher and she underpredicted me as "motivation for a higher grade." So she predicted me a C for human bio when I got an A. So only had ACC as my predicted.

Work experience is a good thing to have: but I'm not sure how valuable it is. As I had all of the following, and got all of those nos:

1 week in Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in cardiology dept (observing surgery, echo scans, consulations, ward rounds, etc)
2 days in Newtown GP Surgery (observing dr, prescriptions, phlabotomy [however you spell that], reception desk, telephone triage, home visits)
2 days in James Paget Hospital on healthcare induction weekend - observation of all departments
2 days with a community physio (home visits)
2 days with health at home team, community nurses from Broadland primary care trust
volunteering at BUPA hospital
1 week spent in Lourdes, France caring for a 16year old boy with severe autism spectrum disorder

Also am due to spend a month in Nepal shortly working in Scheer Memorial Hospital devoted to extreme poverty - all consultations, etc are free - lots of tropical diseases.

yep i blame the teacher - i asked her to predict me an A but she said "sorry, i can't. if you don't make it, it means my predictions will look poor, so i have to be safe"

bluddy cow

you've got nice work exp wish i had some more hands on things

maybe I'll see you in Keele if we both get in!!

(btw, i would apply to glasgow if i were you as i hear newcastle is insanely tough to get into)

glasgow isn't too bad to get into. i hear aberdeen is fairly tough. don't know anything on how leniant kele are unfortunately - despite me applying to them. haha!

i don't know too much about them - didn't look at glasgow. ruled out aberdeen as i phoned them up and they turned their nose up to my AAC.

they can ask you to interview for courses you didn't apply for. last year i applied for medicine (all first year entry, 5yr course) and uea invited me to an interview for their foundation course that i hadnt applied for.
