    No Voluntary Work Experience

So it's under 2 months until we have to submit never mind write our personal statements etc and i still have no voluntary work experience. I have 3 short work experinces in hospital settings. But voluntary wise i've done nothing. I'm really worried because lots of universities have said they are looking for work experience in a caring environment (and the longer the period of work the better). Is anyone else in the same situation? And can anyone give me some advice? Thank you!

Can't say I'm in the same position as you, but why didn't you organise any voluntary work? There's a million places you could do it -hospices, hospitals, clinics, special schools, old people's homes, with disabled children, with disadvantaged children, with charities etc etc - where none of them accessible to you?

Unfortunatley i live in quite a rural area, and the nearest thing to me is an old people's home which is still quite a way away. None of the other things are really accessible.

Well I'd get the hell into that old people's home and ask to help out and soon. With only a few weeks in a hospital you'll have a very weak application.

Can you possibly get into a primary care setting too before you apply? (GPs) Because then you'll have a variety of work experience.

Even in the most rural of areas people have social care needs. Contact your local GP surgery or council if you really have no idea of what services are provided in your area.

I have to say that admissions tutors really are looking for initiative and dedication to help others. Getting involved in a lot of voluntary projects demonstrates this quality brilliantly. As your experience is a little lacking it's best that you talk up the work experience you've already done and ensure that all other aspects of your personal statement are rounded and strong.
