can you make your own predicted grades for ucas??

I am 18 in my first year of college ( I took a gap year straight after gcse's), having just sat my AS exams in biology chemistry psychology and english.
I want to apply for dentistry at manchester and liverpool so i can stay at home.

I know that i have seriously failed in my biology and chemistry exams so instead of resitting a year ive decided im going to enter as a private student at a different college and do an alevel in one year for both subjects.

If i apply for dentistry in september through ucas should i enter as an individual and not through my college cos otherwise they wont give me A's as predicted grades (and dentistry wont bother looking at my application) and if i enter myself then i can write a's as predicted grades for ucas.

    What do you think???

Nope. You're still going to have to supply an academic reference. The tutor will be responsible for supplying your predicted grades. Otherwise you'd be able to apply, potentially gain a firm acceptance and then, even if you didn't procure the necessary grades...have a place.

You could - there are no stipulations on who writes the reference aslong as they are able to talk in sufficient detail about your academic side, and offer an unbiased and accurate (well, as accurate as can be) account of your future potential for academic success.

You must ask yourself this - why are you doing so badly this year? If you have failed, as you put it, at just doing a 1 year course, then how do you think you're likely to cope at doing a 2 year course in 1 year? I know it sounds harsh, and I don't know your individual circumstances, but I think it would be hard for me to justify predicting you As and Bs for a much more intensive course when you can't achieve them on a less intensive course, even with the help of a tutor as you seem to have.

However, if you think that you can do it, then why don't you just do the course then apply to university after that?

hi, thanks for your advice im really stressed at the moment cos im unsure about wat to do.

There's no way i can apply for dentistry a year after cos ive already taken a year out and that would mean taking 2 years out.

By the way, u know the grades that you put down for your a.s.'s well do they check them with the exam board or from the institutuion where you sat the exams??

Hi I am a private school pupil, and my school would not predict me higher than ABC...they advised me NOT to apply this year but I did anyway because I didnt see the harm in it. I had two inverviews and an offer! Be careful where you apply, and you should be ok! Btw...at AS I got a D in chem, and B in bio.

I think they'll ask to see all relevant certificates. That's what they've done at both of the nursing interviews I've been to, I never got far enough in a medical application to find out!

Even if they did check with a third party though, why should it matter who that is? Both the exam board and the institution will say the same thing (well, one would hope anyway )

I don't wanna squish your hopes and dreams here (hell, enough people have done it to me over the last few months!), but unless there was a really really good reason why you did so badly this year (ie/ You spent the last 6 months living in a cardboard box with only a rat who chews textbooks for company), then I'd suggest you go for a full 2 year course. You could do that by either continuing what you've already started (and believe me, it's doable - I got AACC for my AS Levels, january resits got that up to AAAC, and hopefully another resit this time will have got me up to AAAA/AAAB, it just takes a hell of a lot of determination and hard work), or by starting over. At the end of the day, is a year or two here and there actually going to matter? You have 40+ years to be a dentist, there's no need to rush into it!

You could lie on your UCAS form and will probably get away with it for a bit, but universities will eventually seek confirmation of your grades and may contact your reference. This would lead to any offers being taken away so is definitely not worth it.

yes but as long as you gave a valid address for the referee. and by that time i will have half sat half my exams which hopefully i will have passed with a's so i will have the certificates to prove that....
