All the medsin stuff seems to be run down in Plymouth otherwise I would have gone. Looking forward to the tropical medicine lectures this year though. Wanna get involved with marrow as well this year if possible.

Yeah marrow was def a big success, I wish I could do it
I can't give blood or anything for another year due to spending time in Uganda >_<
The Medsin conference was really full on and tiring but at the same time an amazing experience and a great way to get involved in so many things!- Visit the Peninsula Society of Tropical Medicine: here.

Blood and marrow are different. Someone I know got totally harrassed and practically thrown out when she tried to give blood for the same african travel reasons but marrow was fine, and the blood people are told to direct any homosexual men they get to the marrow station as they'll accept them too.
Also I think it's a recent policy change as the "Marrow" reps from our second year gave us this long talk about how to sensitively turn away gay men and how you've got to exaplain it's policy &c. and we turn up on the day and we were able to recruit them....

I've only done one marrow clinic but I'm pretty sure you can sign up even if you have a piercing/travel etc but they won't actually put you on the register for 6 months or however long it is. I had a piercing a couple of months ago and was allowed to sign up, but they won't put me on straight away. Arch_Angel you are right they also allow gay men, I think this is a recent change though.

Bellamy is from my block if that helps narrow it down.

To echo others, I'm also on Medsoc and before Uni I didn't like to drink very much (if anything!) and didn't really go to clubs... but that's changed a lot!! I was worried that it was going to be completely alcohol fuelled and that I'd be the only sober person around, but that's not the case.
You might find that this happens to you too but either way, we're working to put on a variety of events so that everyone can get involved and have a great time. And we welcome any suggestions, if you have an idea for any event whether its educational, a social, fundraiser or whatever, then you can approach any of us.
Don't worry, there will be something for everyone.Michael
