well macca you could choose a course where you dont need to sign in and dont acutally need to attend a lorra the lectures to learn medicine.
like, i've missed 80% of me last year lectures and 'avent been to one this year yet!
its good for working to pay the mortgage and bills aye, but it could be useful for babbycare too."...reminds me of childhood memories,

I don't know about warwick but I have had to miss a few days already because of illness (the girls or the au pair, not me of course because mummies are not allowed to get ill) and it's been fine. I took my daughter to a lecture I didn't want to miss (sat in the bar area with the latecomers and viewed the slide presentation while she played with polly pocket). I haven't missed anything but tutorials and lectures though (so far) and apologised beforehand for the tutorials. Lectures not so much of a problem since not everyone goes anyway. If I have to leave a lecture early I explain the lecturer why I have to be away early beforehand and everyone so far has been sympathetic. The hard thing is managing the amount of work, childcare and household management in the evenings and weekends, the days are fine (in fact easier than looking after the kids full time).

I know Warwick have a sign in system for practically every lecture but I like your approach of telling them BEFORE hand that you're not going to make a tutorial

Full time mommy IS the hardest job in the world-I take my hat off to anyone who does it.
Certain family members are less than impressed that I am thinking of going to med school, ''what about your child'' ?? 'he's going to suffer !!'' OMG-emotional blackmail or what !!
PS: Of course mummies are not allowed to be ill or moan or have a bad day. ...that is just not allowed.

PS: Gizmo-missing 80% of your lectures is taking the p***
Which medical school are you at ? I thought the GMC was trying to prevent this going on by ensuring medical schools have some kind of a sign in system to make sure students attend lectures ??

Yeah, Gizmo, what with not going to lectures and being on NMM all day, how much work are you doing
, you must be super clever!!
Had my favourite MIL moment to date when I told her I was going back to study medicine. Her disapproval was pretty overwhelming but without it I would have never got the courage to actually do it.

MIL=Mother In Law
I am going against the grain in many respects-but it is not like I am signing up to a lap dancing course, I can't understand why people are so negative about me applying. Sure it's going to be tough but as long as hubby is supportive why should other people mind ??

I had cold stoney silence for a very long time.. then they tried to dissuade me (through my mum - but thankfully my mum being indian indian thought I had been granted a belated entrance into Nirvana and there was no way she was throwing cold water on it). MIL was understandably worried about the effect it would have on the family but funnily seemed to have forgotten that she returned to work when her kids were little too (and that was the 70s). Unfortunately the lack of free weekends means we have to see them less..

That was the reaction i was expecting from my MIL but for some reason she suprised me by being really keen on the idea, as was my FIL and SIL. I don't get on with my MIL at all so assumed she'd use it as another reason to hate me!
Pooky i'm also the only mum on my course and it is very lonely. Everyone must be sick of me talking about my kids by now (not to mention showing them all photos!!!)
Maybe we should meet up. Are you at a london med sch?
