I am aiming to start medicine in 2010 when im 32, trouble is I have no kids yet, and still want to have them!! Really have no idea as when to try to fit them into my life! Before, during or after med school... Nothing is ideal or right.. but I guess the only thing to do is to wait and see what happens and know that what will be will be!!

But it is good to hear that it is possible to do medicine and have babies!
    St Andrews 1st year medic!

I can't give you any perspective as a medical student or a doctor but I can as a mum.

One thing to be aware of is that you really don't know how easy or difficult it will be to get and then stay pregnant until you start trying. We all grow up thinking that it takes 5 seconds to get pregnant and that all pregnancies end in a baby but it's really not the case. This really isn't supposed to worry you at all because for a lot of people it *is* that simple but I guess all I'm saying is not to 'timetable' a baby because often plans won't happen the way you expect them to. Start trying whenever you feel emotionally ready, not because it's a specific point in your career. You'll already have enough stress without having to worry about whether you'll get a healthy baby exactly when you need/want it to arrive.

    Cheers

I think you should go with your gut instinct about when it's right to have a baby - I'm 6 weeks away from having my second baby during medical school (first one after second year and this is my final year now). I haven't regretted it at all; as one of the previous posters said, it is good to know that most medical schools are incredibly supportive and you don't have the responsibility for patients that you would otherwise have if you were qualified. I suffered terribly from morning sickness this time round and just don't think I could've given a job 100% but have managed my studies nicely

Good luck with the decision making
