Come on you moms and dads!!!!

    Hello Everyone!

Admin have kindly set up this new forum for all you moms and dads out there who are in med school/applying to med school, so that we can get together and share experiences/ offer advice to each other. If you don't have kids but plan to in the near future, then this forum may be a good source of seeking advice from those of us who are already facing the challenges of balancing a career in medicine with parenthood.

I'm moderator for this forum, but if anyone else wants to help run organise this forum that'll be great.. I'm sure admin won't mind.

I think it's a good idea to introduce ourselves.

Will return once I've fed the kids!!!! Oh the delights of motherhood....

    I will introduce myself.

My name is Trudy, I'm 24 and I'm married with a 2 year old boy (well, he is going to be 2 on Saturday)

I currently live in Derbyshire, not far from both Derby and Nottingham.

This year I have applied to WAMP at Soton, and the Medicine with foundation year at SGHMS. I have also been accepted onto the Access to Medicine course at College West Anglia in King's Lynn. Whatever course I get accepted on, or end up doing, I'm going to have to sell my house  The thing is, we only brought it last year, and I really love it.

My husband is going to give up his job and come with me, wherever I go. He really hates his job, so that's not a problem! He has applied to UEA to do a PGCE, but has also applied to Soton to study a Law degree. Don't ask

Well....He does not go to nursery, so he has no friends  However, my Mum is coming over, so we are going to have a little party with her!

He is going to have balloons, Jelly and Ice cream and a Birthday Cake!!

I hoping, when he goes to nursey next year, we will invite some of his friends over then. Can you imagine a house full of 3 year olds?

Are you planning on ever having kids in the distant future, Fluffy?

    Hi!

Well this is abit about me:

I'm 31 years old, married with 2 (soon to be 3) kids. I'm from Birmingham, but currently live in Bahrain due to hubbies work. Where's Bahrain? Well, it's a small Island off the Persian Gulf. It's sunny, sandy and a great place for families. We have beaches here and the weather is always hot so that we can chill out everyday. However, in the summer months it gets too hot, so we end up staying indoors.

I'll be applying for 2005 entry to med school. Bham Uni would be my first choice, but I think that they have a strict selection process so I don't know what wil happen there. I'd like to stay in Bham because:

    a. we have a home there,
    b. it's my home town, I know it well,
    c. I know what schools I'd like my kids to get into,
    d. my moms lives there (thank God for moms!),

If Bham reject me, then I'll also have to consider relocation (again!), selling up etc.
It's bad enough having to relocate from overseas.
My hubbie is very supportive. Actually he wants me to get into med school just as much as I do. I think he imagines a life of househusband eventually!!!! I can't say that I blame him not wanting to work. He's been a banker all his life, long hours, stress. I think he's sick of banking now, even though it pays very well, he wants out. He's going for an academic post when we get back to the UK.

Birthday parties....hmmmmm, yes I've had a house full of 2,3 and 4 year olds.....and believe me it's stressful...but fun. Both my kids are at nursery so I have to invite all of there friends for birthdays. It's crazy, but they have a fantastic time...so do the parents. We're quite lucky here because I just set up bday parties in the garden. I get my husband to do a BBQ for the parents. He looks so cute in a pinny!!!

Anyway, hope Carter has a lovely day.

I have a degree in Health Studies (1st class thanks to hubbie who pushed me to work harder). I'll be applying to GEP, but I think that it will be wise to apply to at least one 5 yr (maybe Bham).

    Baby is due in March.

Fluffy, It would be greta to hear from your friend.

I'm also doing A level Chemistry this year because Brum request it. I've got lots of time to prepare, but I think that the most difficult part will be getting the kids in school/nursery. There are very long waiting lists for nurseries/primary schools in Bham and most cities. I can't get my kids on any waiting list until we actually return to the UK. Private nurseries are very expensive especially when you have more than one kid. At the moment I have a nanny here. Home/childcare help doesn't cost much here. I'm serioulsy considering getting a special overseas domestic worker UK visa for her so that she can come back with us. That will be ideal for me.

You sound like you are very busy, especially with another one on the way.

Do you rent out your house in Brum?
