Hi there,
I'm a 25 yr old wife, and mother of 1yr old Jacob. I've applied to GEP at Kings and St Georges, and 5yr at St. Georges and UCL. I've been trying to revise for Grimsat, and I don't think it's going too badly :? , but I have no idea how to write essays :?: ! Also, I've not been able to fit in much w/e, what with full-time work and kids. :? What sort of w/e do the reat of you have?

Hi Wendy,
I have not got any up to date work experience as yet, but have sent an application to the local hospital for some work. Due to the fact I look after my son all day while my husband is out working, means I'm very limited as to what I can do. However, when I spoke to Queen's medical Centre in Nottingham, they said that I could do weekends or evenings if I wanted. I have also applied to my local Community hospital, as it's only a stones throw away, so fingers crossed.

That's reassuring - I think most med schools will take into account the fact that mums and dads can't necessarily take 3 weeks out of life to spend in A&E.
So far I've managed to compress my ours at work, so I do my full time hours in 4 days, then I spend Friday mornings at my local hospital (small rehab + clinics), either shadowing a consultant in his clinics or helping out on the wards with the old people.
I've heard nothing back from any med schools yet, except acknoledgement cards - I'm hoping that no news is good news!

Hi drwendle!
Sounds like the w/e you're getting now is great. I think the quality of w/e is far more important than the quantity. It sounds to me like you're getting relevant, quality healthcare work in both the hospital and clinic environments, observing consultant work as well as working with patients. That looks great on a ps and I'm sure will demonstrate to interviewers that you have taken the initiative and time to do all that.
