    Oxford GEP students 2009- hello!

    Hi guys!

Thought I'd start a thread for those of us who have accepted an offer from Oxford GEP.

I'm convinced that I'm going to turn up to my 1st tutorial and they're going to take one look at me and say...um, we must have made a mistake...we didnt mean you! But until that happens I cant believe my good luck!

I thought it would be nice to get to know each other and help each other through the next few months.

I've receieved quite a lot of info recently re: college fees & battels, suggested book list, vaccinations, an account on the intranet etc. and am now really excited!

Looking forward to meeting you in Sept!

    Hi Amy,

Also just accepted my Oxford offer. And am now working through vaccinations - can't find my diphtheria booster record...

(Just discovered this message board and realised it is eating my afternoon so won't post much)

But will say hi, and see you in Sep!

    Ruth

    Hi Ruth,

I also need to sort through my vaccinations...currently attempting to get to grips with this reading list, and realising my current eduaction is woefully inadequate in preparing me!

Hope you've found your diptheria record!

yes I'm working through that and the biology of disease.. I'm looking forward to the CV chapter as hopefully that wont be quite so alien as all this infection stuff...I'm trying to drag memories of A-level back and it seems a dreadfully long time ago!..I think I'll be doing that a lot from now on!
The tiger that isnt is a good read though

Lol, yes, now we know how to prove that speed cameras may not actually work!

...It's very good to hear from you Aims - it's motivating me to get a move on with the reading list, which is great when I'm surrounded by people who have just finished their studies and never want to look at a book again!

I'm no expert but I did it by deciding what was most important to me (could be anything- sports facilities, grad/ mature students only, drama, library facilities, grounds, 'status'/ history of college, cost of accomodation, style of catering etc etc) and then look in the prospectus or, ideally talk to current or ex oxford students to see which one you think would suit you best. Depending on how easy it is for you to get there, you can always go and visit a few. Personally I really wanted a genuinely friendly and mature atmosphere and really didnt want to be somewhere austere and full of public school boys intent on rah rah networking, I chatted to a few people and was recommended Harris Manchester and St Annes so thats where I applied.

Thank you AimsRJ. I will take this advice on board. At present, i've just put down "Open Application" I'm assuming this means any college...??
