2012 GEM Waiting List
Thought I'd start this thread to avoid clogging up the general 2012 GEM thread.
It will be interesting to find out the method for ordering the waiting list this year (there have been varying responses given previously involving GAMSAT and interview scores).
Nothing to do now but wait for May 7th and find out our positions!

Good idea beinghopeful. I really hope it isnt done on gamsat scores as I only scraped through with 59 :s what was your mean interview score? mine was 1.83. At least we can try and establish if we have all got the same interview score.
Have you got in anywhere else? Dreading this wait!

No it was a table with the sections on the top row and your score below. Maybe because your gamsat was so high or I know it sounds silly but maybe they just liked you!
And congratulations on southampton it is supposed to be an amazing medical school. I havent got any offers just notswait list and no idea what is going on with my swansea application!

I thought the GAMSAT was only used to put the waiting list in order, not to decide who goes on it - it will be interesting to see what other interview scores are for people on the waiting list but I might clarify with the Admissions Office.
Fingers crossed on Swansea and Notts for you - Notts said they made fewer offers this year so hopefully a lot of people on the waiting list get offers!

Thank you.
I dont know I thought they only used gamsat last year as everyone on the list had the same interview score so they used gamsat instead. I honestly dont know we will have to wait for some clarification on monday.
And I think your right about accepting less people as one year they accepted 130 so going by that logic everyone on the wait list would probably get offers, but I dont think we can really speculate, med schools are a law to themselves.

I wanted to make my information less specific and the edit function didn't work so this is my edited post #3:
"I haven't seen the letter because I am working away from home at the moment but apparently my interview average was over 4 (mainly 4s and 5s) which sounds ridiculously bad - lowest 20-30% basically. Does the format of the letter make it possible to misread the scores?! If it was read the other way around it would be an average similar to yours.
My GAMSAT is over 70 but I don't think that would make up for that interview score.
Luckily I have an offer from Southampton 4-year so I'll wait until I find out my position on the waiting list (7th May) then decide how likely it is that I will get an offer from Nottingham by 7th June which is my deadline for replying to Southampton.
I am half-expecting to get removed from the waiting list though as that interview score is terrible.
Have you got any other offers?"

Hello, been an observer of NMM but thought I would finally post to share the pain of the waiting list. Notts is my only option now, so I am keeping my fingers crossed (don't know whether that is wishful thinking lol). I got 60 in my gamsat, but got 1.83 in interview.
I think this year there is a wide range of interview scores (last year they were very similar therefore got ranked purely on gamsat alone), so who knows how the waiting list is ordered this year.

(I'm not sure that anyone has had success at editing a post. Best thing to do is click edit, then delete the post, then just post a new one, having copied and pasted the old message.)

Hello there fellow waiting-listees!
I'm in a similar position to beinghopeful. I scored 69 on GAMSAT, but my interview score was terrible (if interpreted as per instructions)
I mainly got 4s and 5s (mean score 4.33). This would probably put me within the bottom 30% or so, which wouldn't be good enough for a waiting list place (only ~139 out of over 300 were offered a place on course or waiting list).
I suspect that a mistake has been made, either a) they've put me on the waiting list by mistake or b) the scores on my letter are inverted, or just wrong. Like beinghopeful, if I invert the marks, I come out with a score similar to everyone else (1.66). It would be interesting to know if there are other people on the list with really bad scores!
I'm going to call the GEM office tomorrow to bring this up, and to ask them how they rank waiting list candidates. Hopefully they haven't put me on the list by mistake.
In terms of working out the likelihood of getting from the waiting list onto the course, the relevant factors are;
1. Number of places that become available. This is the number of people who have an offer from Notts, but accept an offer elsewhere, minus 9 (~100 offers were made for 91 places). If 1/4 of the people with offers choose to go elsewhere that means 16 people from the waiting list will get a place on the course.
2.Position on waiting list. The list is 39 now, but some people will have had offers elsewhere, which will reduce this number. I'll post a message on here once I've asked someone at the office about their method for ranking. The only things I can think of would be interview score, GAMSAT score, or some mysterious combination of the two. Personally I'm hoping it's GAMSAT!
Congrats to everyone who made the waiting list- we're still in the race!
Pete
