Thanks KMJ_turbo it seems crazy, I can only think that the work experience score is about how you talked about the experience and not what you actually did. However the other scoring sections would surely rely on good knowledge from work experience so I find it mind boggling that you can get 1s in thoose and a 5 in experience because to me they are partly the things you learn from experience.
Anyway i probably need to stop brooding and start planning for next year.
    Anyone braved ringing admissions today?

I dont wanna go into details of what headings I got scores on the internet but u know what I mean by 'in exact order' Im 2,3,1,1,4,2. Not sure how they decided on those but some do overlap, so to get a 1 on something that clearly overlaps something u got a 4 in makes no sense to me! Like for section one its crazy I got 2 cuz Iv worked with doctors for years and always in MDT meetings ect, how did I get 2?! Maybe I didnt say something at interview!? Either way its seems that someone was better than me and I gotta deal with it and try to improve in case there is a next time!

I think with notts it's not just how much you say you've done, but also what you learnt from it and how you reflect on it during the interview, combined to give an overall work-experience score. When I asked for individual feedback they told me I had a lot of good and relevant experience but I was shit at explaining what I'd learnt from it. Except they were a bit more eloquent!

I also got terrible interview scores, 3,3,4,4,5 (5 for work experience), so no idea why im on the waiting list. I got 72 on my gamsat though, so maybe they take it into consideration?

If only roughly 16 people on the waiting list get an offer thats not too encouraging. Nottingham is also my only option.

My work experience, is: Over 2 years for the blood service doing research, over a year working for a mental health charity performing an audit in a gp surgery and helping train primary health workers, and 3-4 months volunteering one afternoon a week in my local hospital. I guess maybe not enough patient contact. I also totally messed up talking about it in my interview.

Oh well. Guess I'll have to wait and see where I am on the list ....

Relationship between raw scores and quintiles

    Hi Guys

This may be teaching grannies to suck eggs, but it seems to me as if there is some confusion over the relationship between raw scores at interview and the quintiles thing.

It is perfectly possible to score adequately in a particular domain (say 3 out of a maximum of 5), yet still find oneself in the 4th or 5th quintile (i.e. a 4 or a 5 in the table on the feedback letter), if the majority of others interviewed scored higher than you in that domain.

I think people need to realise that this is a competitive process and that a place on the waiting list at this stage is no mean feat. As best I can estimate, getting a waiting list place still puts you in the top 10-15% of applicants.

    Fonseca,
I agree that being in the fifth quintile does not mean you got a 'bad' score, but disagree that if you were consistently in the fifth quintile (like me) that you could somehow be in the top 10-15% overall. GAMSAT seems to be factored in. Also, I think that the offers (100) and waiting list (40) together make up about 50% of the interviewees (I think they interviewed 300?)

    Dear beinghopeful

I did say 10-15% of *applicants*. I believe there are around 1200 applicants each year. Offers + waiting list = 140 candidates; 140/1200 = 11.7%.

If your scores put you in the bottom 20% of those interviewed overall, you would still be in the top 30% of applicants - this is nothing to be sniffed at, just keep plugging away if you have the desire. Use your quantitative feedback combined your personal reflections on your interview performance and you should improve.

    Fonseca,
I think in this thread we are just trying to work out how they choose the waiting list from the interviewees, but yes, you did say applicants.
On a slight side note, if they interviewed everybody and filtered by interview score first and GAMSAT second (which they don't because of resources), I would have been in the 'bottom' 20% - assuming that performances in interview and GAMSAT are independent which they may not be. So it rather depends on how you approach it!

I got another email from Sarb today and I quote:

"The waiting list is now ordered by taking into account:
    1. Interview grade
    2. Gamsat highest score
    3. Interview mean score
    4. Gamsat section 3 score
    5. Gamsat section 1&2 mean score"

In other words, I am completely confused. We will just have to wait until the 7th May.

I think it makes more sense that that is how they formulated the waiting list. reading the page before, I was in the same boat roughly as many who were unsuccessful. 66 Gamsat, 3's and 4's interview score. A high GAMSAT definitely helps to get on the waiting list. That in of itself is an achievement. Good luck to those on it, I have a feeling a good chunk of you will get offers.
