cert sci ukcat scores
I want to apply to the cert sci course but i got a score of 2220 (555 average). I dont know whether this is good enough and now im worried that i might get a rejection. although they dont have a cut off score this year im really worried it is not good enough. Do people get scores around this mark when they apply for cert sci? WHat kind of scores have previous successful applicants acheived?

cool. thanks tangliss that was really helpful. my top 8 gcse's including english maths and science are 1a*, 6a, 1b so im hoping that will be ok. Is the admissions process for cert sci the exact same as nottingham's bmbs with the addition of the screening form and questionnaire? The other thing that confuses me about cert sci is the interview process - is it a proper medical school interview using the same questions posed to candidates at nottingham?

The selection process will be similar, except the GCSE and A'level grades are lower for the certificate. You also have to fulfil 3 of the screening creteria.
As for the interview it's exactly the same as the process used for the 5 year program, you will be interviewed by two members of staff, one from Nottingham and the other from Lincoln. The questions will therefore be the same.

thank you for your help tangliss - it's been a nightmare trying to get through to emma jubbs so far but i have 2 more questions. What was it like living and studying in lincoln for the first year, are the facilties at the university good? Also how difficult is the course becuase im predicted 3Bs for a level but im worried about the percentage required to progress onto nottingham. I heard that you need to get above 60% in all units not 60% average so was wondering how hard the work is and how hard it is to get that 60% especially in the chemistry component?

Lincoln is lovely!! I never lived there as family commitments meant I had to travel on a daily basis from Derbyshire. People who lived there really enjoyed their experiences. As for studying at Lincoln I loved it and really miss the place, hence why I go every year and talk to current Cert Sci students on behalf on Nottingham University. Yes, every module has to be passed with a minimum of 60% from this year onwards, in my year this was not the case however I managed to pass every module with a min of 60% which was quite easy at the time. Saying that biochemistry was quite hard in the second semester, since they have made that module even harder to reflect the teaching at Nottingham. If you put the work it you won't find it a problem passing with the minimum requirement.

hey tanglis, hope your keeping warm in the cold winter months lol one question regarding the cert of health, iv applied to it at the start of october, aswel as other 6 year med courses at UEA, southampton and lincoln being one of them, iv got rubbish gcse's 3A's 5B's 2C's mainly due to exteniuing circumstances, and im predicted 3'Bs at a level in 3 sciences, i think my ps is good and my reference is also good and i have loads of work experience, i was woundering do i stand a chance of being invited to the interview, becuase its been 5 long weeks and i only recieved a acknolewgdement from lincoln whereas others have sent me the questionnaires? and furthermore i meet 4 out the 5 criteria's and i really want to get in? becuase nottingham med school is really good after going to the medlink conferences, and finally do lincoln sent out questionnaires like notts med school, about contact info about w.e, becuase i havent got any certificates or documents saying that iv actually done it as it was through my 6th form?

Hi Hamid0034, the weather is not treating me well so resorted to hot water bottle lol! With regards to your GCSE's, Lincoln/Nottingham ask for a min of 5 C's including English, Maths, and the Sciences. As you have a good range (very similar to mine actually) you fulfil the minimum academic criteria. Secondly your predicted grades are also good, again Nottingham ask for three C's one of them has to be Chemistry, as you are predicted higher and are studying all the sciences, again this looks good for you. As for the non-academic criteria, Nottingham want applicants to fulfil 3 out of the 5, so it's good you fulfil more. All this combined, you stand an excellent chance to be invited for interview.
With regards to work experience, I'm glad you have managed to gain lots, Nottingham love this and will ask you lots of questions on it in interview(well they did at mine).
Lincoln will send you a questionnaire, it's not exactly the same as the one Nottingham send to 5 year undergrads. It gives you an opportunity to expand on your PS and let Nottingahm know a little more about you. You will probably receive this soon.
