Nottingham vs. Manchester vs. Newcastle
I am getting ready to submit my UCAS and I have chosen 2 universities but for the remaining 2 I cannot decide between Manchester, Nottingham, and Newcastle. How do you think these 3 compare in terms of difficulty to receive an offer? If you had to choose 2 of the 3 which would they be and why? Thanks!

I didnt apply to newcastle but did apply and get offers from manchester and nottingham....both are supposed to be difficult to get offers from but hey its all luck of the draw really. The universities all have different ways of filtering candidates and you never know how they do it. Therefore my advice is to look at which universities you WANT to apply to, rather than which is easiest to get an offer from, because realistically none are easier or harder than the rest.
Nottingham and manchester cant be much different from each other in my opinion....manchester is heavily PBL, industrial city etc etc whereas Notts is mainly lecture based in a city but with a nice leafy campus....not that im biased or anything lol. Manchester's interview was a lot more intimidating than nottingham's, there are (or at least were!) 5 people compared to the usual 2 in most other interviews. Of newcastle I cant comment
So it might not seem much help but my advice is to choose which you prefer because there isnt really an EASY medical uni to get into
Best wishes!

I attended Newcastle University's Open Day this weekend. The Uni is amazing but then again so is Manchester... As for the admissions process in Newcastle, first they screen the applications for AAA predictions. Then they rank everyone in order of UKCAT score and select the number of candidates they want to interview from the top. E.g. If they want to select 1000 candidates for interview, they pick the top 1000 UKCAT scores. Therefore, I suppose if you have a really good UKCAT score you're virutally guaranteed a place.

"screen the applications for AAA" does that mean that you get considered regardless of your ukcat or that they then use ukcat on those AAA people? i'm just curious because i've buggered up my ukcat a bit: 635 av
a hole in my foot

What I meant is your UKCAT score isn't the first criterion they consider. You need to have a prediction of AAA first before they even look at your UKCAT score. If you don't have a prediction of AAA then I think you'd get rejected straight off. After that all the applicants left are ranked in order of UKCAT score.
