Hiya, im a new third year too. Natalie covered everythin very well. Id jus like to add sum other things.
kidney: i found the lecturer pretty rubbish to be honest, (infact id say the worst lecturer ive had) and after quite a few lectures i didnt understand what she tried to teach us. so yeh extra reading is essential from whichever physiology book u find best. i used sherwood cos i had it from first year and much of it was helpful but it didnt explain some things u needed to kno. i thort the exam was pretty straightforward, easier than i had expected. ive heard this module is changing for ur year as well as the endocrine and metabolism modules so perhaps what im tellin u isnt so useful.
endocrine: yes straightforward. i didnt need to do any extra reading. this exam was fine aswell. id say it was one of the easier exams of the first 2 years.
metabolism: i dont think its neccessary to do any extra reading for this. this exam had 40 questions, (8 blocks of 5 questions), so if u didnt kno anythin about one of the block of questions this took quite a chunk out of ur marks, so jus make sure u learn EVERYTHING and dont leave bits out.
SF: jus like 1st year fill in the booklet each week an learn everythin ur supposed to learn each week and ull be fine. i didnt and i had to cram a lot for the exams which isnt a gud thing to have to do. spotter exam is a bit of a bitch as u'll kno from first year but not too much more difficult than first year. infact however, i did better in 2nd year spotter than 1st year one, prob cos i knew what to expect. some of the anatomy is difficult to understand so make sure u get ur head round it first time round when they go through it in the dissections. just make sure u learn everythin u need to kno and dont leave things till last minute and the essay question and true/false exams should be pretty straightforward.
alimentary system -deffo make sure u learn the anatomy from the lecture slides. i more or less ignored these slides which was a bad mistake. i was very suprised with the number of anatomy questions they asked us, too many than i had been prepared to answer! apart from the anatomy in the exam, i found the exam alrite. i didnt need to do any extra reading beyond the lecture booklet and nle lecture slides.
CLS - ther isnt really much if anything in cls which is 'hard' to understand, thers just a LOT of it. i didnt look over anything from semester 2 and did fine in the exam. they r very ambiguous with how much u need to remember for the microbiology part of the exam. i jus tried to remember as much as i thort possible, because it is impossible to remember everythin. i found the cls exam overall pretty average to be honest, not a 'nightmare' as u sed.
ppl have prob sed to u loads about how to keep on top of things and i think this is the best general piece of advice. i didnt keep on top of things and had to cram a lot b4 the semester 3 and 4 exams. i have never failed an exam but this is an awful way to go about things. I'll post sumthin on the semester 4 modules another time lol. hope this was helpful.
