Question 2 questions: Psychological testing & Health check

I just read this on a website:

"Individual medical schools are working hard to encourage widened access to the medical profession. Methods of selection to medical school currently being investigated include psychological criteria (typically the personality and behavioural factors identified in good doctors) and consideration of non-academic achievements. Explicit psychological testing is already used by some medical schools such as Nottingham University Medical School. The process is still controversial since using specified personal and behavioural factors might not allow for the diversity of specialisations that exist within medicine. More information is available from the BMA publication Selecting our doctors."

How does this work? Are the questions at interview and on the questionnaire designed to incorporate a degree of psychological testing?

As for my second question, if you have a conditional offer, and you satisfy the conditions and make it to Nottingham, and you somehow fail the health check ... do you get kicked out?? It makes sense to me that you should provide evidence of your CRB and health status BEFORE being made an offer.

Does anyone know of any instances where someone was refused entry at the last minute due to health reasons?

Yeap, I do, without getting into too much detail, as the person used to post on here. Two years ago, I went for an interview and met up from someone on here, who had their interview the same day as myself. We were both given offers, and as we satisfied the academic conditions, the offer was conditional based on health and crb checks, as 9 times out of ten, they are. A couple of months went by, and the person (who has a physical disability) was asked to see OH, where she was told that they would be unable to take her onto the course. This was very sad, as she really deserved her place on the course and had a passion for wanting to study medicine and become a doctor.

In my opinion, if you start on a foundation year (hopefully Lincoln will soon realise this is what our course is ) the you should have to have crb and health checks before you embark on the course, like other med schools. I know for a fact that Soton and Georges, who both run 6 year courses, do this.
