Certificate in Science for Health Professionals Information!
Here is a link to a foundation year which commenced Sept 2005. It is a one year course, which is taught at Lincoln University, after attaining 60% or more, you progress onto a variety of Health care degrees at Nottingham, including Medicine. There are a number of criteria you have to meet before applying, which are contained in the link below. Once you have applied through Ucas, you are sent a supplimentary application form. If successful, you are interviewed by two members of admissions staff, one from Lincoln, the other from Nottingham. Where a decision is then made as to whether or not you have been accepted onto the course:
Update 2 There is a £1000 bursary for those who transfer to Nottingham from the Lincoln/Nottingham certificate in science scheme. This will apply to all cert sci students who start Nottingham in 2007.
Students may also apply for the, first in the family, bursary. More info about bursaries are in the link above.
Update 3 Once you pass the course with the required 60%, you will be invited to attend the graduation ceremony at Lincoln Cathedral. So, for all you medics, you will get to graduate 3 times.
Oh and Nottigham university also won the Higher Education Institution of the Year
Latest Update: 20/09/2007 After attending the University of Lincoln on 19/09/2007, I was informed:
2006 only 8 of the 10 places for medicine were allocated! All 8 progressed into the University of Nottingham, however 4 students wishing to progress onto the other courses ran by the University of Nottingham did not get in. The guidlines were very strict that year, so much so that a student who obtained an overall average of 59.8% was not allowed to progress onto Nottingham.
2007 only 4 people were admitted onto the certificate to study medicine! This year the guidlines are even tougher than the last. Unlike the previous years wereby in order to progress onto Nottingham students had to achieve an overall 60% or above, now the uni specifies that students studying medicine and pharmacy need to also achieve a minimum of 60% in both semester 1 and 2 biochemistry as well as an overall grade of 60% or higher to progress onto Nottingham. Those wanting to be vets, must pass every module with a minimum of 60% in each!
2008: Out of the 4 who studied for medicine on the Certificate, 3 made it into Nottingham. There are currently 6 on the Lincoln course this year.
