Types of accomodation.
Ive decided to put nottingham as my first choice so Im now starting to look up what the accomodation is like. On medlink i stayed in Derby Hall which i thought was pretty cool.
When do we sort out accomodation? do we choose where we get put, and is it a first come first serve basis?
I have a strong preference for old fashioned buildings, and nice architecture, ie buidlings with history and aesthetic appeal. I remember walking through some attractive halls with a courtyard when i was there, can anyone guide me as to which halls they might be. Basically i am just wondering how i can secure myself accomodation in attractive surroundings, as to me this is more important than which is closest to the pub lol(not a heavy drinker).
Does anyone know price ranges for the accomodation.
Oh and finally, there is a grand piano in the medical school building :-) I would love to play it some day, can anyone tell me anythin about it, ie is it ever played, if so can anyone who wants to, play it.
Thanks.Science, in the very act of solving problems, creates more of them.

The accommodation system at Nottingham is a bit strange in that you cannot choose the specific hall, only the are you want to be in, such as University Park or Jubilee Campus. Here is a link to the accommodation choices including prices - Notts Accommodation. I think you'll get sent the information once you have put Nottingham as your firm and you can then apply online.
As for the grand piano, I haven't a clue!.

"Apply online from March 1 2005– August 1 2005"!
"As popular accommodation can go quickly, we encourage you to apply as early as you can"
"We allocate in date order of when you apply for accommodation, so the earlier you apply the better"
uh ohh, i didnt realise that u can apply from now and that its first come first serve.
I cant do anything till cardiff hurry up and make their descision so i can put my choices on to ucas. Grrrrrrrr... ile probably end up with a tin hut now :-(
Can any current students offer any reassurance? Am i doomed to 5 years in a pit, or is there still a chance that ile get somewhere id like to live.Science, in the very act of solving problems, creates more of them.

All the accommodation at Notts is really nice, and your only in halls for 1 year, so please dont panic! If you want older buildings select Uni Park as your 1st choice. The nicest building is Cripps (its a listed building!) but you cant select your hall, so just keep your fingers crossed. The older halls are the ones with single study accommodation (not en-suite). Hope that helps.
As for the piano - all i know is there are sometimes people randomly playing it, so i think anyone can play it.

I stayed in Rutland on medlink and it was horrible. My room was like a matchbox! I wouldn't apply there personally.

i honestly wouldnt get that stressed out about which hall you end up in!!
ok..maybe you might be allocated to one of the "less attractive" ones, but you'll still have a great time - i think the people will make your time there, rather than the architecture!
as for room size - ensuite generally makes your room smaller
im sure with a few posters and fairy lights any room can be made beautiful!!

I went to Medisix this year at Nottingham University (last week infact) and I was staying in Derby Hall. I didn't like it one bit, the halls outside of the rooms were tiny, and the paint was coming off. My room was fairly small but it had all the usual stuff (desk, shelves, wardrobe).
Luckily I live in Nottingham so I only slept there for one night, then back home the 2 other nights

Is university park the most commonly applied for then if its one of the nicest? If so what other ones would you recommend? Are there any combinations of room choices that are unpopular and so less competetive?
Oh, and Is this accomodation guide online as i cant find it anywhere?Science, in the very act of solving problems, creates more of them.
